Hearing loss from opiates?

I use opiates often but in small doses. Primarily oxycontin 10-20 mg a day at the very most. I did it several months in a row, then took a break, and now have begun using again. I read that Hydro effected Rush's hearing, adn I was wondering if oxy did this too. I know its not proven but I was wondering if anyone else has thought this? I my hearing just seems slightly off, esp if I do around 15+ mg earlier in the day. Anyone else feel this or is it just in my head? Thanks
 
The study was just for hydrocodone, and it was a very poorly done study with a small, poorly selected sample group. What makes it more tempting to believe is the rush limbaugh situation. His hearing loss was genetic. Hydro (and oxy) are perfectly safe and don't cause hearing problems.

Remember, a study saying there is a correlation between grape soda and herpes is more newsworthy than the fact that a study correlating grape soda with herpes is flawed unscientific bullshit. Hydrocodone is the #1 most-prescribed medication in the USA, and it's perfectly safe (notwithstanding the APAP or ibuprofen typically combined with it).
 
and even if it was true, that was only done for LARGE quantities of hydro for extended periods of time, taking 10or 20 mgs a day off and on wont make u go deaf.

You can find a study to say whatever you want it to say, you just gotta find the right people to conduct such studies.
 
There is not sufficient evidence to suggest that opiates damage hearing. They could however make you more likely to zone stuff out.
 
It doesnt cause hearing loss. Ive been a heroin addict for 13 years, and been on methadone for almost 7 and I hear just fine.:D

I have noticed after I take hydros for a few days, my hearing is actually more sensitive and small sounds tend to really irritate me. I don't know if this is common or what, but it drives me crazy. I feel like everyone is talking 30 decibels higher than necessary

dude, the thread is about hydrocodone and oxy, not opiates in general.

i've read several articles describing cases of severe hearing loss from the abuse of vicodin. i don't think it's something to dismiss like most of the people in this thread.

if taking alot of vicodin caused severe hearing impairment, especially if it is irreversible, wouldnt you think the fda would not approve its use or at least put a warning out. i mean if this is a real scientific fact dont you think everyone would know about it especially cause as someone said it is one of the most commonly prescribed pain meds?? it just doesnt add up to me.
 
Some drugs are ototoxic. Not sure about opiates. However, because a drug may have a particular side effect doesn't mean it will manifest itself in everyone who uses it.

If it would cuase hearing loss, then the FDA would pull it. Though it could cause hearing loss, since it is a phenathrene opioid it should be harmless to your hearing.
 
I know taking tylenol frequently can cause tinnitis(note: there's tylenol in vicodin).

You sir, are correct. I have also been clean from heroin for almost a year.
That, I am also proud of.
