I really love my opiates, but One thing bothers me, the headaches. Whatever opaite it is, I always get a headache, the sort you get when you drink enough fluids. Earlier I took 210 mg codeine CWE and ALthough im feeling pretty nice, the headaches are back and worse than ever. It was 5 days since I last took any opaites, and I have drunk plenty of fluids.

Any idea how I can get rid of these headaches ? There not unbearbale, but Id rather not have them.

At what stage of the high do you get the headaches? I sometimes get them at the end of a high, but not frequent enough to be much of an issue. Are you eating enough food on days that you are getting high?

I took it at 7:50, began getting a headhace about 8:30 just as i was porperly comign up. Its now 9:11 and the headaches quite irritating. I had a normal sized luch about 1 pm today, and then ate a bag of crisps when i got home at about 5. I dont like to eat anything after lunch on nights I take codeine as it dampens it a bit, coudl this be whats giving me the headaches ?

You might fare better if you take an antihistamine, they seem to reign in the unwanted side effects from opiates for me.

I have taken antihsitmaines before (diphenhydramine and promethazine) and neither helped the headaches. Maybe im weird here, but the tingling, the itchiness and the hot flushed feeling is all part of why i love opiates, there not the same without them. So I dont really use antihistmaines, for me the only bad effects are the nausea and the headaches. Its all good though, thanks for the replies :)

Antihistamines don't dull the wonderful tingles, in my experience. They just nullify the nausea, and for me the difference in enjoyment is black/white. I get crippling nausea from all opiates...

I guess drugs are different for everyone, but for me they dulled the lovelyness, and did nothign for the nausea :(. Is there anything else like an antihistmaine thats worth trying ? Would an anti emetic get rid of the nausea, or jsut make it hard to throwup (i very rarely actually throwup).

Considering that codeine has I think the highest, or one of the highest, histamine releases of all the opiates, I think the only way you could combat the nausea would be to tackle the cause head on with antihistamines specifically.

You could try doubling up the dose of the antihistamines although, if you find they dull the euphoria, this probably doesn't sound appealing.

There is doxylamine (brand name restavit)which I read about on the codeine potentiation and synergy megathead , which the original poster states is his favorite and finds the best , then there's dimetap and promethazine and shit . Maybe try taking a different pain killer that helps headaches like Panadol (paracetamol) , just enough for the headache , although I have no idea how dangerous this is or if it'll even work because ur already dosing a much higher dose of another painkiller .

Stay hydrated. Also Ive noticed that once I got too accustomed to codeine, back in my early days of opiate use, it just never felt the same as when I first started doing it and had no tolerance. Eventually I did not get any pleasant or enjoyable effects from it and I just got nauseated and had headaches. Maybe not the best piece of advice to give, but why not try moving up to a different opiate?

I actually ended up getting a headache from hydromorphone right after reading this thread, and ibuprofen did the trick.

I'd try anti-histamines and see if that helps, or a low dose of NSAIDs. Ibuprofen is popular, also naproxen.

I'll bet 200mg ibuprofen would do the trick, and diphenhydramine for the other classic side effects of codeine.

Did you find something that helps, Faceplant?

I sometimes get a minor but irritating headache with opiates, usually at the tail end like Albion said. Sometimes I find that an aspirin helps me get rid of an annoying headache when I'm loaded up with morphine. Somewhat ironic, non?

Opioid-related headache is a recognised medical phenomenon - the only way to address it really is to cut down on your opioid use. It's usually associated with regular use but not always. You could try non-opioid analgesia such as APAP or ibuprofen, or an antihistamine, and staying well hydrated is definitely a good idea but if none of these work it may be that you have to cut back even more on your opioid use unfortunately..

Are you well-rested? Do you get the headaches at any other time? If so, I would definitely see a doctor about this to rule out a medical condition. Getting your eyes tested is a good idea too as poor vision can cause headaches.
