To preface, I have a very strange (often nocturnal) sleep schedule, but I usually get 6~8 hours of rest per 18~16 hours that I'm awake; sometimes it's broken into chunks. I should also add that, many years ago, when I was much, much younger, I was put on Adderall for suspected ADD/ADHD, though it turned out (as it so often does) that my 'diagnosis' was simply a result of my pediatrician not wanting to actually look into/treat my condition. Currently, I'm on 20 mg of Adderall per day to help with focus/mood, unrelated to any such attention deficit disorder.
Anyway, the first time I took my dose this week, things were rather strange. For starters, it took about 4 hours for it to kick in; I hadn't eaten very recently, so this occurred to me as strange, as I know that food is the most common way to delay medication absorption. When it finally started to kick in, I think my blood pressure rose slightly (which I understand is a common side effect), because my face felt 'full' and a bit hot, and my temples throbbed a bit; it wasn't very severe or exceptionally unpleasant, but noticeable enough to be discomforting. That stopped after about 20 minutes, then I was left with the usual, pleasant effects; sharp focus, elevated mood, motivation. It stayed with me for the next 10~ hours. After the effects wore off, I was still left a little restless and had insomnia (again, typical). When I woke up, I was dizzy, achey, and a bit nauseous, from depletion. I hadn't stayed hydrated well enough and hadn't been careful to eat.
I took my second dose about five hours ago, then decided to nap until it kicked in. After 4~ hours of sleep, I woke up to the brief rise in blood pressure; after that stabilized, I noticed I was feeling exhausted, complete with heartburn and weird body load in my legs. I've eaten very well and I'm hydrated, so I really don't think it's depletion. And my sleep, though spaced out in chunks, has been substantial. None of this is severe enough to be considered a warning sign to stop taking it, as far as I can tell, but it's uncomfortable.
Has anyone else experienced anything like this? Is this typical? Abnormal? Is it possible that my body is just being weird while adjusting to the medication, or should I be worried enough to contact my doctor?
