I am intrested in one of the most common used drugs , Nicotine.
How many of you smoke ?
What Roll ups or Cigs , which brands, when did you start , why , has anyone managed to give up , theirs loads of questions.

Personally i started smoking at 12 , i suppose i was curious and also i thought it was cool:\
I have never tried giving up , although i said once they are £5 a pack i would . now i smoke roll ups about 25g a week . I think the ban on smoking in pubs is outrageous and has caused alot of boozers to close.

How do non smokers feel about smoking ?

Great thread title! :)

I started when I was sixteen. I'd had a try before then but I was really anti-smoking for a long time, mostly because my mother was a chain-smoker who stank out the house and made my sister's asthma worse. Smoked when she was pregnant too. If anyone deserved cancer it was probably her. Or Thatcher.

When I started it was just something to make going out easier; I could literally surround myself with a smokescreen. I think many people are the same.

After that I just fell into the habit as most smokers end up doing. I used to smoke Marlboro reds, then Regal, then Marlboro lights and Consulate for a bit. I'd skin up with Silk Cut silver for the sake of smoothness.

Nowadays it's just tobacco - Drum Gold if I'm feeling a bit flush, Gold Leaf or Amber Leaf otherwise. I know there's better stuff out there but they tend to be easily available so they win out for that reason alone. I only smoke about five or six fags a day and the rest is all spliffs. It's only really my round-the-clock weed smoking that keeps me buying tobacco.

I have mates who can spend well over a tenner a day on fags. It seems insane, but then I look at the prices and it makes more sense. Kind of.

Strangely I've been addicted to a few things but fags I could smoke everyday at work then not when I got home. Or like regularly smoking while pissed but not when sober. I don't really find it addictive..

I think the smoking ban in pubs is good. Stops people who hate smoking having to endure it. Even though I nearly always smoke when properly pissed I think it's better having to go outside. It's like going for a cheeky line and getting the crack :D

Started smoking at the age of 14. Smoked roll ups and spliffs everyday until i was 21 when i gave up the weed. I didnt find giving up the tobacco alone hard atall. I still smoke these days when im drinking but like rockstar said i dont feel the urge to smoke whatsoever when im sober.

It's not so much the urge that gets people hooked, it's the extreme wall-climbing discomfort when you try to stop. Is suppose it fades but it's too easy to just light up again.

I find you really have to work at smoking tobacco every day before you'll be even slightly hooked. Hence the reason social smokers can so easily avoid getting a habit. Good luck to them.

The tricky thing is that alcohol, stimulants or cannabis kind of require the smoking of tobacco/fags.

Anyone remember John Player No 6 ? My fav cig ever . Discontinued long time back.
When i'm in Europe and can afford Tailors i always go for JPS Black or Lucky Strike Red depending on if i want toasted or not.

It's the cannabis one that gets me. I barely know a heavy weed smoker who hasn't ended up on the fags, however grudgingly.

Out of the other two though, neither will get people hooked. You won't experience nicotine withdrawals if you smoke a few fags when you're out clubbing or whatever. Unless you're out clubbing for a week solid day and night.

Brimz - I went through a JPS phase too. Loved the box.

Remember when Embassy Filters were really popular? Barely see 'em at all these days.

Interesting fact you may already be aware of:
Smoking cessation products would work a lot better if they contain an MAOI of the same strength that is found in Tobacco.
That MAOI is what is responsible for more Dopamine et al. working it's way to the pleasure-centers and sticking there for a bit, hence why it's so fuckin hard to give up.

Like Sam said... I was a heavy weed smoker. I thought I was a bit addicted to weed (retarded I know) but then I realised I could just smoke fags, and that I was smoking 20 cones a day purely for the baccy. I've quit now though. Strictly 2 or 3 pieces of nicotine gum per day (I could quit these too but I want something to brighten up my day and give me a boost).

I have been a smoker for about 25 years. I started on cigarettes at age 15 but for the last 20 years I have only smoked Golden Virginia tobacco. I went off cigarettes as I find the smoke is very dry with no flavour to it. I also find tobacco a much stronger more satisfying smoke

I'll second that. I find the rolling aspect a good time killer as well, cus it turns smoking a fag into an 8 minute exercise instead of a 5 minute exercise.

thank fuck i dont smoke, used to smoke a bit when i was drinkin but jus dont do it anymore
seen loads of people who started smokin cause they just got passed 1 on the beer

I've smoked straights since i was about 15. saying that i can easily go a week without one. nowadays i tend to smoke socially, usually after a couple of brews.

I started smoking the odd cig when I was 16, a year after I started smoking weed, at first I was smoking lightly, then when I started smoking rollies I stated smoking a lot of more.

Fast forward until age 23, I decided I was gonna quit weed, so I stopped smoking both.

I really want to give up this pointless, smelly, drug.

Its the last thing on my agenda...

I had my first cigarette when I was 8 and was smoking everyday from 13.

I gave up 10 years ago (30) for various reasons and it was hell on earth, I used the lozenges which helped a bit.

I had to give up my beloved hash at the same time due to the strong psychological connection I had between nicotine and hash, I only smoked straights when it wasn't possible to smoke a joint...work etc.

My old man gave up at the age of 60 after 50 years, he used the inhalers.

I'm glad to be rid of the habit but I still miss it, often

Never started smoking, never will. I have obviously tried it a few times when I was at school, but didn't see the fascination and wasn't going to be drawn in by peer pressure. Have had a couple whilst drunk since then, but never ever considered taking it up as a habit.
