They will give them to you in the ER, to hold you over until the pharmacies open. (late night visits). Usually don't give you too many, though.

Correct - hospitals only, they have Vicodin ES (and a bunch of other drugs/strengths) in blister packs, when a patient needs one they just rip off one and give it to you..

And then charge you an obscene amount for it. I got charged 4 bucks for an 800 mg motrin. How can hospitals get away with that kind of extortion?
