Have you ever had a bad time on Ecstasy?

We all know that set and setting can have a massive impact on a drug experience. However, I used to think MDMA was exempt from this.

My first (and only) difficult time was around 2000AD when I double dropped some green triangular pills, but the wife wasn't playing, so I ended up watching Titanic with her whilst mashed. The end scenes where everyone was dying in the water affected me greatly - to the extent where snow and ice properly freaked me out for a good couple of weeks. I previously didn't think it was possible to have a bad trip on this stuff - but it definitely is.

Has anyone else experienced something similar?

Yups in the past where I thought I was going to faint drop down dead etc..while I was coming up strongly, after a little bit of vomit I was cool as chips though.

I've had bad times on MDMA, purely down to set & setting, a couple of times. Each time has involved being one of the few people on MDMA with most everyone else absolutely steaming, loud, and aggressive.

Ah fuck, I still shudder thinking about it. All I can hear is, ''Heeeeeey, Heeey Baby. Ooh, Ah..''. Fucking drunks :!

I've had a couple of times where the magic was completely gone for me but nobody else. It was just hard trying to relate to everyone else having a great time whenever I just had that nasty stimmed up feeling.

I think that's more to do with the overwhelming effects of the come up. That's never bothered me, I love a strong onset, but I'm aware that many people find the come up tricky. What I'm referring to is a dysphoric experience that lasts for far longer than the effects of the drug. I've never had an experience that was so unsettling, even with standard psychedelics...

Aye, if I was unable to stand during the come-up, I knew I was going to have a great time (right after I boked first).

I'm going to stick out like a sore tumb here but I wouldn't call it a "trip" at all. MDMA didn't do much for me other than force me to enjoy some really shite electronic music, and the come downs were pretty bad. Never took it after that.

I haven't had a comedown from MDMA since my teenage years. I think it's generally down to much more sensible dosing, rather than buying as much as I could afford and taking it in one session.

Ooh, dodgy ground feller... :)

I never had any problems with comedowns from MDMA - even when I boshed up to 7 pills in a night. I think this may be because I used to have horrendous comedowns from sulphate, but kind of got used to it.

The odd thing is that happened after having taken a load of pills beforehand (at least 100) so I wasn't quite unexperienced at that time but something was different and it wasn't set and setting as it was the same as usual.

I too started getting horrendous comedowns on speed/base after a few years of taking it at weekends, they were so bad i quit and havent touched it since. Weird i loved it at first and never reallly got comedowns. I think as u get older the body just cant take what it used too. And with mdma never had a negative mental experiance tho had a bad physical reaction/xperiance once which was scary i had weird water blistrs show up all over my body, and didnt feel right mentally either. some were quite big aswell. twas about 3am when i scratched my back and felt a big weird lump, then went home and noticed they were all over my body. Scary shit didnt really touch them after. Does any1 have any idea what happend to cause this.

Not a majorly bad thing like a bad time. But when I first started taking pills alot of times underage and disco pupils I'd be refused entry to clubs because it was so obvious I was spangled.

Also remember having a batch of rolex which it later emerged on here contained MDMA and mephedrone and them making me feel mentally unstable and physically unwell even while high.

Holiday/festival comedowns.

Sorry to keep banging on about dance music but its fairly relevant

By 2001 my pill use was at silly levels. At the second Gatecrasher event at the NEC (NEC NXT) the NEC arena decided to host just 5 dj;s all night, none of whom I wanted to miss. I arrived fairly early and had already taken a gram of speed (when I could get real speed) and arrived about half way through Matt Hardwicks warm up set. With Oakenfold, Paul Van Dyk, Mauro Picotto and Scott Bond i was determined to stay in the main room for as much of the night as possible so I double dropped 2 Versace's (excellent beans at the time) with the idea that I would be flying by the time Oakenfold came on. Due to the crowds it was one of those that if I left the main arena =, chances are it would be ages before I got back in again so I just danced up the pills and was flying by the start of said set.

Then everything went west. I noticed how hot I was becoming and within the next 5v minutes my 'roll' had completely disappeared while I continued to get hotter and hotter, despite having a bottle of water on me. I knew things were serious when I stopped sweating as despite being a stupid immature twat I was aware of the safer dancing guidelines and realised that I was having a classic hyperthermic episode (when you overheat on E and die). I quickly found a security guard, explained what Id taken and the situation after which he got a colleague to help before taking me straight to the medical centre.

The initial nursing assessment confirmed what I had guessed - I was having a hyperthermic episode due to stimulant overdose and to make matters worse I caught a glimpse of my observations- my BP was 190/ 100 and my heart rate was 147bpm. Thankfully i didnt get to see my temperature. So, the space blanket was quickly brought out, I was given 10mg diazepam IV and told to sit off and drink a bottle of water slowly. After about 3 hours I was considered fit enough to finsih cooling off in the med centres 'halfway house' (basically a chill out room for people with medical problems.

I got back out onto the arena about 4 o clock, just in time to hear the epic thump of Mauro as he started his set. As it had been a disaster of a night, and also due to the fact that Picotto was my fave jock at the time, I rejoined the dancefloor, and me being me I had another pill. I knew I wouldnt come up on it properly due to the diazepam Id been given but I wanted to dance through the last 3 hours so I justified taking it for the amphetamine effect alone. The last 3 hours turned out to be really good, mainly thanks to the beautiful sounds of Mauro and Scott Bond

Its incredible to believe I used to be an even bigger twat that I am now but hey ho there you go. If any lesson came out of it all that night marked the last time I took pills and speed at the same time. The whole thing could have been avoided if I wasnt such a greedy music obsessed twat

No, but probably only because I have not taken it that many times (by Bluelight standards, anyway; although my lifetime consumption looks a lot to a straight-arse) and always been very careful (almost obsessive-compulsive) about Set and Setting.

A couple times when i took too much and ended up delusional and tripping my tits off, got confusing, didnt enjoy it very much. other than that, almost every time has been very good with decent MD

Same, I think I've only taken MDMA at the most six or seven times in my life and not in the past eight years or so. Never had a bad one, the only bad time was when we got dud pills, no idea what was in them. Wasn't too awful for me and my mate's husband, we had a laugh, but my mate was badly.

So yeah no bad times on actual MD.

Set and setting indeed. When I was a relative mdma noob (probably around 10 years ago now, yikes!), I misjudged the atmosphere at a house party and found myself coming up on my own around a lot of drunk people who had no clue whatsoever about drugs and kept asking banal questions like "are you feeling it now" etc. Didn't last long before I fucked off home and had a pretty miserable evening by myself.

Didn't do mdma on my own or outside a rave setting for a long time after that. Which is basically the opposite of my consumption these days, which is almost always on my own at home, and absolutely fine since that's the only expectation of the evening.
