have you ever been the target of racism?

yes i have been the target of racism. its not nice. but in these times, its not so much as blatant as it used to be when i was a kid. its a lot more subtle nowadays, u dont get called names as much, but there are the looks and perhaps its just me but the general feeling of uneasiness when ur the only non white person around.

yea in Thailand some guy called me "farang kee nok" which roughly translates to "birdshit foreigner"...
and they call white people "farangs" which means "guava" due to the white flesh of the guava fruit, i reckon that's racist.

and, i get called Jew sometimes, usually by other Jews.

a perfect example of racial stereotyping...this is what drives my thai girlfriends nuts.....so many people in one country and so much attention applied to a few....
:p

Im A Human Being !!!

This new years just gone, Me and me mates had set up our make shift camp....

A Couple Girls rocked up and they had a couple of guy friends with them... we knew the girls... but these guys were fuck wits straight up

They Didnt want anything to do with us (guys) so they started small talk between each other saying things like..

"i think we should leave its too GREASY Here"

One of my mates Being of "Middle Eastern Origin" Didnt like this so he strapped some C4 to his chest ran upo to these Guys and Exploded them ! :D

^Disregard that...

But seriously he confrounted them and some pushing began.... One of the fuck wits was pushed onto the Barbeque and broke it !

Anyway they Lets shortly after that Threating to go and get Knifes and Run us all over...

The police happend to rock up just after they left, we told em what happend.. apparently they got Nabbed For Drink driving !

As for me i've been called a Whit Cunt on various occasions.... and like i give a Fuck !

I was beaten up by a polish boy in year 3 because I'm German.

Little did he know, many of my family members suffered under the Nazis as much as his did.

not really... i guess it's because i have a fair complexion that most people aren't able to guess where i'm from straight away. however i have received some cold silences from people in the past when i've told them that i'm from the former yugoslavia (the part which is now called serbia and montenegro).

both of my parents have been targets of racism whilst they lived in australia though. my mum for one has a fairly strong accent when she speaks english and thus because of it people would constantly try to stiff her on her change, as they would have thought that just because she doesn't speak their language well, she must therefore be stupid, uneducated, or both. my dad also go it at work, just in the sense that his professional knowledge was never valued as highly as an aussies. there was a definite sense of 'as you are a foreigner in our country, you should be grateful to even be here, and thus we will treat you as we see fit.' which isn't exactly the best belief to be holding. :\

I stayed in New York for about six weeks and I went and visited Fulton street mall in Brooklyn - man i copped a few evil looks that day. I kind of stood out being this tall dorky looking white dude, the only white person in the whole place (apart from my little brother who was with me at the time. Same thing happened in Harlem. I don't think I copped any abuse though, I can't really remember.

But people here is aus always ask if I am from overseas, the most common places are Ukraine 8) and lately I have had Ireland a couple of times. Pretty funny.

A mate and myself were confronted by about 15 to 20 lebanese guys in lygon st. Carlton one night. Apparently they didnt like us "fuckin skips" lookin at them as we walked past. Its not a nice feeling gettin kicked and punched in the head repeatedly, especially when the only thing you have done is walk past a group of guys. Luckily my mate, who is alot smaller than me btw, got hold of one of them by the head and repeatedly smashed his head into the concrete until blood was splattering. His mates must have noticed pretty quick because the pounding on my head and back ceased almost a soon as i heard my mate telling everyone he was gonna die unless all the shit stopped.

What made me feel worse was the crowd that had gathered to watch.
"yeah right on, you did good boys, fuck them lebos" was what we got from a group of about 6 or 7 guys that looked about 30 or so.
A bit of help gettin everyone to stop trying to beat the fuck out of us would have been good.

I dont think that racism was the issue here though and the same is with most other cases, these guys were out for a fight that night and it didnt matter who, it could have been anyone.

This incident didnt affect how i felt about lebanese people at all, after all i worked with a bunch of lebo guys that i got along with fine and sometimes smoked with.

The racism part used by the group of guys was just a tool to use against us and give thm justification for their actions. As soon as people see that the views of one wanker or even a bunch of wankers isnt the view of their entire community the better.

I haven't copped much direct racism, but back when i was at school; in various workplaces; out in the street; etc, I have sometimes heard the term 'Jew' thrown around as a pejorative to describe someone being tight with money.

It pisses me off because my father's parents are Jewish, and while that means i'm only Jewish in terms of ethnicity, it still upsets me to think that my grandparents are being disrespected.

I've been out in Northbridge with my Burmese/anglo boyfriend and been hassled by drunk skinheads.

I've been called 'white dog' by an aboriginal guy.

and also 'gui zi' (white monster/ghost) by a Chinese guy when i was in China.

As soon as i hear someone using a racist slur, or telling a racist 'joke', whether directed at me or others, i lose all respect for their general intelligence and character.

once i was 15 catching a train home from my girlfriends house at redfern station close to midnight, totally deserted, and these 4 lebs come up to me, one tells me to relax and not try anything stupid, then lifts up his shirt and shows all these stab wounds saying this will happen to me unless i give him my shit. then one asks me if i'm lebanese, i lie and say i am, then they were all friendly and even wanted me to join them to go rob other people.

also once i was walking down bondi beach and i see this group of lebs trying to chat-up these 2 local girls, i was drunk and i stupidly yell out "nice bitches ay boys", then they all turn around and one says "what the fuck did you say you fucking aussie"(hey, i'm not even aussie), then my iraqi friend comes out of the shop just in time all aggresive walking towards them saying, "i know those girls, whats the problem", then one tries to step up but his friends hold him back and they walk off. pretty lucky, i thought we were about to get killed 8 on 2 style.

Yup, heaps as a kid cos I grew up in a small town in south WA and my family were pretty much the only immigrants. Copped heaps of shit like getting our roof rocked regularly and being told to "go back where you came from".
It wasn't too nice, no one spoke to me but one girl in Kindergarten. I didn't speak English yet and no one wanted to hang around me....Out of three teachers, only one bothered to look after me.

Kind of over it now....I don't LOOK different from any Aussie and I don't speak with an accent so now know one knows I'm from another country unless I tell them. Or they see the spelling of my name! :)
