Have you almost died from anything?

drank 0,5 l of cheap brandy when i was 16.
passed out and ended in hospital due to alcohol poisoning.

So, can the ems, or hospitals, or even just a reg. doctor visit, get the police involved?
If you admit to drug use?

In some places they may be allowed to report it to the police, but I think mostly they're protected under doctor-patient confidentiality (after all, discouraging people from involving the authorities is kind of counter-productive if you want people to live). They may still be incredibly judgmental, and you shouldn't hope to be prescribed anything very psychoactive in most countries. A friend (in Finland) had a leg broken in 3 different parts in a car accident and, though he was given appropriate analgesia in the hospital, he was sent home the very same day with just two pills of 30/500mg codeine/APAP. Ridiculous.

Here in the Netherlands I've personally had to call an ambulance and go down to the hospital with a friend, and he was very open about having used (several, hard) drugs to the paramedics - and it seemed they only asked to assess what drugs they could still safely give him. It was an acccident, not an overdose, but we'd been partying earlier and he was still quite fucked up. As he'd had alcohol they decided against the IV lorazepam but pumped some fentanyl into him on the spot - at ecstasy, cocaine and amphetamines they just kinda shrugged. When he got out after they fixed him up, he was on MS Contin for a week. That shit would never happen in Finland if you told them you used drugs, they'd send you home with ibuprofen.

The states are the same way.. Once the doctors or whoever find out you're a drug addict (more so an opiate addict) their course of treatment immediately changes.. and though in reality because of your dependence you would actually need more painkillers at a higher dosage, you're not getting shit.

Here I suppose telling your GP you use all kinds of drugs on the regular might cause them to not prescribe psychoactive drugs (and they're already pretty stingy with things like benzos - as they should be), but then again, if you're a serious addict it's possible to get pure diamorphine as well as methadone as a form of opioid replacement therapy. I've also been told by my GP (who was a woman in her 50s) to smoke weed/hashish - if I didn't mind the side effects - as a supplement to painkillers I was prescribed. She said a medical prescription would have been possible, but I was much better off in terms of both price and quality by buying from a local coffeeshop. =D

Of course some people are judgmental, but the general attitude at least in healthcare here really seems to reflect that drug addiction is seen as a health issue rather than a crime, and occasional drug use isn't particularly harmful, or even if it is, anyone else's business.

i thought i was going to die when i had drank alot of alcohol before the club, i wanted to find molly that night but thought it was going to happen so i popped 30 mg of addys. but while in the club i was offered some molly so being under the influence i took without any worries, the roll i had off white lightning was so intense it felt like i was on fire from head to toe, it lasted about 5 hours. during the comedown my heart felt like it was going to rip out of my chest and i thought i was going to have a heart attack at any moment.
so i would say never take addys and molly in the same night

IVd a 20$ vial of raw heroin. Might have been fentanyl since it was pure white, I could usually handle much bigger shots, and had a pretty high tolerance. Said "this is the best rush i've ever had in my life!" lay down and stopped breathing. My girlfriend saved my life with the narcan vial she obtained through a program at the Baltimore needle exchange. It took two IM shots of the narcan to bring me out of it, when one was the recommended amount, thats how deep into the OD I was. I would not have lived without her having that narcan. I went down to the needle exchange a couple weeks later and thanked all of the staff in person for saving my life.

Edit: For any opiate users in baltimore reading this: The program to obtain narcan is every third thursday at the needle exchange at the corner of Gay st. at "The Block" where all the strip clubs are downtown. Get it, even if you don't IV or need the needle exchange aspect, people can die from snorting or eating opiates as well.

Just recently I was drinking head to head with a friend. Double shots after double shots..... cups after cups. This was all in less than an hour and all the double shots in less than fifteen.... it was a lot of double shots. I didn't remember what happened next and I really thought I was in a dream later when I threw up. I laid in my own puke and I was throwing up while laying down and our sober friend found me in my puke and got me up. I was really sick... and I think I drank way too much. I seriously believed I had alcohol poisoning and the next day I kept puking up this acid type like liquid.

I'm just happy I didn't choke on my vomit or drink myself to death. I honestly thought I was close to it and should have probably went to the hospital.... I don't really drink but when I do it can be ridiculous amounts. I'm use to high amounts but that night was way past okay.

Several occasions with several different drug combinations involved. The first time, was intentional, 2.7g dxm, a handful of paxil (and I had been taking paxil for several weeks prior at the prescribed dosage). I remember after about an hour or so after ingestion, I felt every muscle in my body tense up and the onset of a horrific panic attack, an extreme akithesiac sensation. I quickly changed my mind and took about 5mgs of klonopin to mitigate the oncoming seizures, tachycardia, and arrythmia. Obviously I survived it, but with some long lasting repercussions.

The second time involved .704 mg dxm during benzodizaepine withdrawal at the end of a 3 day drinking binge. The come-up happened roughly around the time I ran out of beer. Again, a very horrific trip. It was dangerous because I had to lie down while my heart was beating ~180 bpm, to slow down my heart rate. Any slight movement made it worse. It felt like if I moved I would surely have a heart attack. Plus I had what felt like hundreds of small strange seizure-like incidents.

Another time involved ingesting several shots of laudanum with 10mg klonopin. I remember having to struggle to breath for about 2 hours.

Fortunately, I have since learned to appreciate life, and no longer knowingly and willingly endanger myself.

I've had 1 hospitalized benzo/alc mix OD & 3 or 4 or 5 really great rushes that led to unresponsiveness. You know you have a bad habit when you fall out and the best thing your significant other can do is make sure you're kinda breathing and leave you there.

when in high school we would get crews together and stay at a mates house just up the road from the local pool, we used to get drunk, stoned, sometimes pills and then go up to the pool in the middle of the night and jump off the high diving board or ride skateboards down the water slide. anyway, we all got way pissed ran down to the pool jumped the barbed wire fence and then got up on top of the high dive board without checking to see if there was any water in the pool below (the pools are often empty in winter for cleaning & repairs etc.). so the there was three of us and we all jumped pretty much at the same time. on the way down i remember thinking this sems to be taking longer than it usually does, than i thankfully felt the wet splash...come up from under the water looked around at my mates and we all realised at the same time how stupid we were and that the pool was about half full if that...we swam over to the side and could only just reach the bottom stair to climb out of the pool otherwise we would have been stuck in the pool and would have to of screamed to possibly alert neighbours that there was some little idiot dickheads drowning in the dive pool...

always check their is water in the pool before diving in...

i had my tonsils out when i was 25 and hemorrhaged a few hours after surgery.
i was floating up near the ceiling, watching, and i worked at that hospital at the time, knew everyone, realized what was going on. i could hear but it sounded like i was underwater. time seemed very slow.
i have pretty vivid memories of the whole thing, have tried to write it down but haven't found the words yet.

I can't read all these responses but Izzy you're experience is similiar to mine. I was 8 years old and visited a new dentist, never had a cavity but this man told mother that had I many that needed work right away. Before I knew it, he put the mask on me and started drilling. I remembered everything, including the Halloween decorations and Edgar Winter on the radio. Suddenly, I was up in the corner of the ceiling looking at the whole room including myself, mother and dentist. I faded away and don't recall what happened after that, only dreams about sinking into a blue place.

But he kept the gas on me and I guess I blacked out. Or had an out of body experience. It was the strangest thing because I felt alright until I came out of it.
Just then I was awakened by my mother shouting, "she's choking, take it off!" This idiot dentist didn't realise I couldn't breathe from vomitus stuck in my airway. I only remember her then sitting me up and then spewing all over the place including the dentist.

Everytime I hear that fucking Frankenstein song I gotta change it.

When I was 15 I drank almost a liter of vodka in 15 minutes and exceeded the lethal dosage. I was piss drank and I puked all over the police station that I ended up in. Also very recently I was absolutely sure I'm going to have a heart attack after having done 7g of speed and laying on my bed for 3 hours with the heart rate of 130 per minute.

To the post about the tonsils I had a crazy experience too.... I was pretty close to something.... not sure if dying, possibly. I threw up blood over 7 times and blood was coming out of my nose.... I continued to throw up blood and the doctors were worried after the seventh time.... shit I had to stay out of school for sixteen days and ended up in the hospital two more times.

There was this one time I might have been close. No way of knowing, but it's cool, 'cause this obnoxiously fat, moody, smelly cat named Killer, kept jumping up on the bed I was in and rubbing against me all static-y and shocking me, which kept me conscious and aware of whether or not I was breathing. Fucker would not go away either. I'd throw her off the bed and she just kept jumping back up with her definite odor and newly acquired charge, which I don't know where she got, and all that fat. But I like being able to say that my life was once saved by a fat, moody, stuck up, air-polluting, static wielding, bitch of a cat named Killer, dislikeable in every way, and point out the couple different layers of irony in all of it.

Also when my doctor had just started me on clonazepam last summer, I did some H and OD'd, not thinking there would be nearly that much potentiation. Friend dragged me out of the bathroom and this bike cop showed up and summoned paramedics and an ambulance, and they all somehow decided that they could refuse my right to refuse an expensive, unwanted trip in an ambulance, based solely on the intervals between my breaths and the ones between my being conscious. My financial history's bad enough already, now I got a $1,000 bill gonna come in the mail which I'll probably end up burying in the backyard 'cause I'm not sure what else to do with it.

i dont mix alot so i think that keeps me safer from od'ing on cocaine ive done massive amounts but im too cheap to a whole like Bag in one shot. i can def thro down an 8ball with the best of them on a night out drinking. the one time i came close was when i was 16 many many years ago. kurt cobain had just died and it had a profound affect on me that may put me over the top mentally. i was 16 mind you. anyhow while in the looneybin i made some great friends and i had a roomate, an older guy who got into a horrific car accident that left major nerve damage in the hand. he was on fentynol patches highest dose at the time i beleive. this little patch was suppose to make my boy feel ok for i dont know half a week or something. i decided to slit it open and eat the goo. half he said was wayyyyy more than enough to kick my ass but when he went to the bathroom and a whole entire 5 min had passed and i wasnt flying yet i figured "hey, why not eat the whole damn thing. He came back and just made me promise that i wouldnt rat on him if it got bad. and boy did it fucking get bad. i was in heaven for all of 10min tops before it started crumbling before me . i wont go into the details mainly because im lazy and havent written anything in a long time and want to practice through posts and whatnot. they took me to er area gave me some shot to stop the vomitting which i was sure going to be what was goinng to kill me, like a blood vessel was just gonna explode and that be it. it was the most violent experiences of my life. and then they shot me something to sleep and i was a zombie for 2 days. sorry im too lazy for spell check right now, hope this is coherient

Blue bear ecstasy pill. 17th birthday 2005. sweated profusively to the point my whole shirt looked like i came out of the bathtub. I was sweating THAT much, but I felt that I couldn't stand up and had some minor visuals. Very minor visuals, it was probably the weed that intensified it. I was hyperventilating quite a bit. I felt light headed and very faint and my heart was going very fast. Friends moved me outside and gave me water. After a week, I went to a pill testing website and it turned out it was meth and MDMA

The only time I legit almost died, was when I think I had alcohol poisoning. We started drinking at like 1:30PM, and didn't quit until like 2:30AM at last call. The last thing I remember, was walking back to where we were crashing...

...& once I passed out, apparently I started puking in my sleep, while I was on my back. So... my bestfriend rolled me over onto my side, so in his words, "I didn't go out like Hendrix."

It's kind of fucked up to know I could have choked to death in my sleep, and not even known what was going on. Lol.

while buffing grocery store floors, i accepted death on the 3rd night of a mephedrone binge in '09

about a month ago pretty sure i cut it close combining a shit load of kpins with my usually 'nod' dose of heroin

I don't know if the surgeon was just saying this or what, but apparently I left my perforated appendix inside my body for far too long and he said after the operation that if I hadn't came to the ER when I did it could have been fatal due to all the bacteria and shit that was causing havoc in my stomach. Apparently the surgery was much more complicated than expected and it took far longer than what it should have. I was in the hospital on IV antibiotics and hydromorphone for 10 days afterwards so shit was pretty serious.

And when I totaled my car I was very lucky I didn't go through the windshield. Thank god the airbag did its job.
