Have I just taken enough Paracetemol to overdose? (Please respond quickly)

I've posted the same thread in the Australian forum. Apologies for that but I'm worried and was after a quick answer. Thanks for understanding.

In the past I've taken most recreational drugs, but believe it or not I was not aware of the dangers of Paracetemol overdose.

I may sound like a dick and be worrying for no reason. But I'd be very happy if that were the case! Honest and factual responses are what I'm after.

Over the last 2 days I've taken Codral Cold and Flu medicine (actually the generic alternative) just to get high on the Pseudoephedrine. I don't have any of the boxes left but I believe there is 500mg of Paracetemol in each pill. I've ingested the following (all approximate to the best of my shitty memory):
- 28 hours ago I took 14 pills
- 12 hours ago I took 7 pills
- 3 hours ago I took 15 pills

I got quite high and felt great from the first 2 doses, but not much as much from the 3rd.

I'm 32 years old, 6'7" tall and around 130kg. On average I drink 12-15 standard alcoholic drinks 4-5 times a week. I would say I'm of average health although I am overweight 20-25kg.

So far I have no abdominal pain or anything else (that I've noticed) but my face/neck is quite red; as if I'd been rubbing/scratching, although I haven't. I've not noticed any other symptoms or anything out of the ordinary. I assume the redness is related as it's not normal for me.

Is that dosage likely to be dangerous? Am I close to a dangerous dose? Would taking more cause overdose? What should I look out for?

From what I've read this even it seems an overdose may have wildy varying symtoms. From severe abdominal pain and vomiting to nothing at all. The delayed response also see very troublesome e.g. Feeling fine then suffering liver failure 2-3 days later. Apparently it's important to visit the hospital within the first 24 hours of overdose.

Any advice would be very much appreciated!!!

Thanks

J.C.

The only advice anyone can give is get to the ER!
The signs of an APAP OD normally mount their head after 24-48 hours, after which time your liver is all but dead.
Get to the ER, tell them what happened and I hope it works out for you!

That is a very high dose of APAP and you are really taxing your liver, especially since you consume alcohol. I'm sure you are close, if not, at toxic levels. You may want to get checked out and DO GET CHECKED OUT if you notice yellowing of the eyes, skin or nails OR if you experience the abdominal pains you mentioned or your urine is very dark. This is not advice from a medical professional so do not take it as that! You really need your liver though... :\

NO! Once these signs are apparent it is more often that not already too late to help!

GET TO THE ER!

Hope you are alright! why not just buy sudafed next time? it is just pseudoephedrine with no paracetemol or ibruprofen etc. once again, hope you're ok.

Yeah, that's several times the safe(ish) limit - it really is in the danger zone. The symptoms of paracetamol overdose can be so mild that you don't realise till the damage to your liver is at dangerous levels - most deaths occur 3 or 4 days later with precious little warning. Obviously freaking out about such possibilities are of no help but I would seriously consider seeking medical advice - the "safe" daily amount is around 4g in divided doses. Taken all at once 7.5g in single dose really is on very dodgy ground indeed so well worth getting checked out, in my opinion.

Many people believe a paracetamol overdose will cause drowsiness or unconsciousness. It doesn't. There are few symptoms apart from perhaps vomiting, for about two days. In a large overdose symptoms will then start to appear including feeling 'ill' and tenderness of the abdomen.

Any of those symptoms that show up need to be taken seriously and swift treatment sought - most OD victims simply leave it too late cos it doesn't feel like they're in any major danger...

Having said that, many people survive far higher doses with no problem so you may very well be just dandy... but, seriously, Cold Water Extraction is vital for recreational use of pills with high paracetamol content - dead easy, only takes a few minutes of you time and could well save your life. Hope all is well but keep an eye out for any signs of OD and - ideally - get medical advice even if you don't, I'd say.

EDIT: Holy fuck! Just looked at your dosages again and thought it was 3 separate days - 18g in just over a day is insanely high. I'd strongly recommend medical advice in the very near future. That is deep into the danger zone. Seek treatment - now. I'm sure you'll be fine but that's such a massive dose medical advice is vital - your life could genuinely be in danger if not. Please do report back on how you are after treatment but I would very strongly advise you seek that treatment immediately whether you are showing any signs of OD or not - many don't but once the damage is done there is no effective treatment and even survival can mean chronic liver damage for life. Hospital. Please <3

Thanks guys. In a cab on my way to the hospital. The cab driver may kill me before anything else!

Thanks heaps for the advice. I'm in the hospital now with the antidote stuff on a drip. Staying overnight. They said it's lucky I came coz my blood tests don't look great, so thanks for encouraging me. Fuck I'm dumb!

Great stuff, JC. Glad to hear you're dripping your way out of harm's way :)

To be honest, it's really very refreshing when anybody actually takes the advice to seek medical attention when potential for serious mischief is afoot. So many refuse even when they risk losing limbs or even their life just to avoid embarrassment and/or medical bills (if they are in the US). Nice to see someone with a bit of sense for a change :D

Good to see you went, this is exactly why forums such as bluelights should exist. Without this site a life would most likely have been lost.
I would advise anyone not to go over 5g of paracetamol in 32 hours or so, let alone 18g hopefully you will be fine and you make onto a successful recovery, when you return let everyone know how you are!
