If you literally can't go to a doctor.. or for whatever reason can't afford the meds or something... I guess this is better than doing nothing but.. I don't know, I still really don't want people taking this option just because it's easier..
If you can go to a doctor and get the proper meds and dosages.. That needs to be your first option. This isn't something that I would like to see being a go-to for anytime you have a problem. Self-diagnosis can lead to some disastrous results..
That being said, I do know people who have done this and sometimes it works. Sometimes it doesn't..
For real. If you suspect having an infection, especially one related to your drug usage, than you're going to want to go visit the ER, even if you don't have health coverage. In the US, I'm almost positive it is illegal for them to turn you away in the emergency room. Antibiotics also are just not good drugs to start downing due to a 'suspicion' that you might have a bacterial infection, as they weaken your body's response to antibiotics in the future. Also, like Sekio said, there are certain strains of bacterial infections that are resistant to most antibiotics (such as MRSA, which I have personally caught in the past, and it is a BITCH to get rid of..), so using these meds in such a situation would be useless.
I do find this very interesting, and I suppose in a clinch, one could always go to their local pet store..I just would make sure that was an absolute LAST resort.
