I really really hate cleaning but that's one of my main responsibilities inside my home. Can't get a cleaning person and I'm positive that would not be ok w/ my partner.

Any tips?

I thought that maybe the BL community can help me my life's biggest challenges. And trust me this is one of my life's biggest challenges.

I have this idea stuck in my mind that even if I clean now, it will get messy again soon since I like to cook a lot.

I go through 2 weeks of clean and 2 weeks of messy. Any advice on how to get through those 2 weeks w/ a clean house.

sorry to be Captain Editor, but let's not turn this into "What Drugs are Best for Housecleaning?"

Sorry, I guess I didn't say I don't want to use stimulants to get the job done as in the long run it wouldn't be that helpful. If I'd want to do that I wouldn't post here asking for advice, I'd go and buy some.

Coffee has no effect on me. Other substances are absolutely out of question here...I'm looking for motivational words!!!:!

I guess I was asking for it thou...as drugs would be the fastest best working solution here...

I think you're going to have to just make a decision about which you dislike more- cleaning or having a dirty place. Then accept your decision and maybe compromise if it doesn't work out for ya.

Some ideas, if you dislike dirty more than cleaning:
-you have a partner, so discuss and figure out how to share the responsibility

-look at what has motivated you in the past. for me, i tend to turbo-clean when i'm expecting company. if there's a lot on the calendar as far as visitors go, the chances are that i'll keep up with stuff better. if you're the same, then start having more company over!

-if you have some close friends that are casual, consider doing get-together cleanings, where one day you both do your place, and then you help with their place the next time. those have a lot more "fun" potential, cuz you can motivate yourselves with going out to dinner when done, or drunk cleaning time, whatever...

-i know you said "no" on hiring someone, but if it's because your partner isn't ok with it, then he/she needs to help. only fair. if money is the issue, weigh out a second job (part time) that you would enjoy more than cleaning, like maybe one or two hostess shifts at a restaurant, and designate that money for a maid service.

I too hate cleaning. I try to get myself motivated by reading about making my own all natural cleaning products. Then when I make them I am excited to try it out ;)

If you clean for 10-15 minutes a day and set aside a couple days a week for the main stuff it makes the big cleaning days easier. Music also helps. ;)

????Not sure if this helps at all but I can relate.

^ very good info...vibby & ocean...exactly the kinda stuff I'm looking for

my partner helps...he's actually the one keeping the place clean at the moment and I feel very guilty.

Having company is definitely my biggest motivation to clean. I can clean most of my house in 1-2hrs. Turbo-clean.

I'm gonna go for 15 minutes today! I started cleaning the main area but husband had Hostel II on and that made me shrivel back into my office where I'm posting this...excuses excuses...I know

I'm kinda similar, in that if I buy new products and cleaning items, it's like ooOOOoooohh, I wanna try this now!! I try to do the same with buying fun bins and containers to help organize, but then i'm pretty bad about following through. I think that if you start with a small project first, like completely empty a closet, sort, organize, throw stuff away... it'll get done well. and once all that stuff is off the floor and looking more organized, it's all clear to vaccuum n stuff.

but for the OP- what are the main things that need done? like, is it too junky to just sanitize, vacuum, dust,,, or is it like everything needs done, including full fridge evacuation and wash, everything needs dusted, walls need wiped; cuz there's a huge range of unacceptable out there. what would be on your chore list?

oh oh, and we can even make this thread a Cleaning Support Thread if people would find it beneficial. like having an internet workout buddie system that you check in with and they help you out with planning small, realistic goals for the amount of time you can do that day.

it might work, or you might just all call me gay for suggesting it :)

OMG I'm super the same. Love new cleaning products, brushes, sponges, etc. I get super motivated to clean =D Also to the OP....here are a few websites to help ya out with specific cleaning matters. (I love having a list to refer to before I undergo a huge task...makes it easier to break it down into little pieces!)

Cleaning support thread is a great idea IMO for many of us out there...

I guess everywhere needs a little work...it's not like food rotting out everywhere, fridge gets cleaned every once in a while, just lots of clutter, my husband had a phase where he would collect stuff he found on the street that people would give away during Spring Cleaning...yeah...I put up w/ that in the name of love...legos, lots of electronics, computers, printers, speakers, 2 aquariums etc. we sold most of the stuff but still some left...he's obsessed w/ electronics so he collects them and fixes them...he's an engineer...we have like 15 computers in the house that he's hesitant to throw away cuz he might need a part one day. 8)

My entire place needs reorganizing. I did do my 15 minutes today!

I guess I'm gonna try to do 1 thing a day. I need more motivation thou. I used to be much more up to date w/ organizing.

Cleaning makes me naeseous, not even kidding.

I can't organize/clean for more than ten minutes without having to sit down from nausea. I fail as a woman.

I find cleaning to be one of the most satisfying things in the world :D I absolutely <3 it!

InTherapy, I recommend doing a small amount of cleaning every day, and make it easy for yourself to do it. Just make it part of your routine, and don't think of it as a chore because then you're already hating it before you even start!

I've found some awesome cleaning products that make cleaning SO EASY, like no-scrubbing-necessary type products. So it might be a matter of trying out some new products to find the ones you like.

Which areas of the house are you most having trouble with??

I actually felt the same when started today. Made me sick to my stomach kinda.

All areas have clutter..I also lack motivation...I tried reading the Buddhist view on cleaning and it's so good on level of theory I just need to put it into practice.

Once you get a routine of cleaning/tidying-up going, it'll be so much easier. And like I said, do a small amount every day and it won't seem like such a big tedious job.
Just think of the satisfaction of having everything neat and clean, and of everything being in its right place.

I know this is probably not the most helpful advice, but I hate cleaning, but in boot camp, I just had to learn to STFU about it and get my fukken bunk squared away for inspection the next morning anyway.

i.e. just say fuck it, its gonna suck for a few hours, and git r dun...self discipline, ect.

or as the other person said, take a shift or two extra at some part time job and use the money to hire someone else to clean for you....or cut something from your life (dining out, do a bit less drugs, remove that mobile internet option from your cell phone, ect) and use that savings to hire someone.

By the way, I'm more than willing to offer my services as a cleaning support buddy for whoever needs it :D
