Hey, so I have some GBL sitting in a plastic bottle that I've had for about 7-8 months. Its just been sitting on a bookshelf, out of direct light. I tried some the other day, after not taking any for at least a few months, and it tasted MUCH worse/MUCH more bitter than any of the other times I've taken it. I know GBL doesn't taste great to start with, but it's noticeably much worse tasting than I remember. It is possible that a significant amount of plastic has leached from the bottle, and that's why it tastes so bad? Or is it possible that the GBL has gone "bad" in some way? Either way, do you think it's still safe to consume? Thanks.

Plastic bottles have an code on the bottom indicating type o plastic. Can you check for said code, GBL is stored in HDPE, i believe or High Density Poly Ethylene.

Pure GBL going bad seems very unlightly. Never happened to me, then again my GBL was always consumed within no time.

it says "PE" next to a little recycling thing with a 2 inside of it. It also says "TMP B 905-01". I'm guessing its just polyethylene then. Could this be a cause of leaching? If so, how bad is it for me to drink this?

http://www.erowid.org/chemicals/14b/14b_storage1.shtml this will contain the info needed concerning GBL and plastics. But it is certain you have disolved PE in your GBL. The only type of plastic capable of carrying GBL is HDPE. Well you live and learn good thing you found this site and the fact your tongue tasted something was wrong with your GBL.

I would dump the GBL Vonshudo , you don t want to drink disolved PolyEthyleen.

ooh ooh my bad, just found an paper on plastics #2 code stands for HDPE and #3 is for LDPE. There seems to be no 'regular' PE so I hope you didn t follow my advise and dump it. Please check again if your code matches the #2, if so good chance the GBL is ok and just tasting weird due to other factors. Come to think of it #1 stands for PET, which I guess is PolyEthyleen the regular type. Sorry for the mistake recently all this was researched by me in order to understand which plastic was best for baby drinking bottles. But my mind is so messy.

I cant think of many people that woulg go and dump a shitload of drugs simply after reading a post on the net. some, but not many!

^ perhaps you're right but I'd like to think if someone asked if their GBL was safe or not, and people said no because it's dissolved some plastic they would not go on to consume any more..

However, as it looks like the OP did have HDPE after all it's not that this time. GBL should last for a long time if stored properly, but if you feel something is not right with it then the safest thing to do is not consume it.

Going to close this now as there is not much else to add but if anyone has any queries shoot me a pm :)
