Has anyone tried WWOOF-ing?

Hey Yeux, I tried sending you a private message but your box is full.
I dont know if you will see this but here is the message:

Im considering taking a chance and doing something Ive always wanted to do, wwoofing. If I do it, I want to do it in either CAlifornia or Hawaii, and if I like it I might look into continually doing it as a means of traveling around the world for awhile. (Id have to say up some money for plane tickets and what not first, I only have 4 grand saved as of now).

Anyways, I know that thread is super old but I was wondering if you could tell me a little about your wwoofing experiances and how one might get into it?

i have a friend who went wwoofing in new zealand and in hawaii with his wife. he said hawaii was amazing, he ended up working on a farm with a bunch of hippies. he said everyone was laid back and really nice. he worked maybe 4-5 hours a day doing stuff like weeding and planting. i think it was a 2-3 week deal he signed up for...

if i remember, i will ask him for more details the next time i see him.

Im actually planning a novel right now in which the setting of the story generally revolves around a group of people who meet while wwoofing. So I definately want to hear stories as much as possible if not get some wwoofing experiance myself! :) Reading about others experiances sort of paints a picture in my head of ideas for what my made up wwoofing farm setting will be like, so thanks, and please if anyone else has stories or info post away!
 
that sounds like a great way to get experience on a different lifestyle to see if it's what you want for yourself, without the risk of getting way in over your head.
 
You can go work in some really crazy countries like Hawaii if you want, but you have to get in touch waaay in advance to get a place there. It's far from lame.

Since watching Monty Python and the Holy Grail I've been thinking about going to the Scottish countryside on holiday. Cheers for the tips, this might be a good way to do it on the cheap.
 
Sweet, this thread got me interested in wwoofing about a year ago! I ended up wwoofing Japan for 3 months and had an AMAZING time. Learned a ton and it was just a fantastic experience all around.

Hawaii is supposed to be a wwoof meca, as is Australia and New Zealand. However, I'm pretty sure you can easily wwoof just about anywhere. DO IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
 
^I think you just inspired me. I REALLY want to do this. Not just for free travel either..I really believe in organic, sustainable farming. Its an important cause for me..being a part of it, even for a short time in my life, would be amazing. Also, just the simple, zen like work. Building/cleaning/growing/harvesting/whatever else..being right there working on mother earth, in harmony with her..

I just really want this experiance in my life. Im considering looking for opportunities here in California (where I live) first, and then maybe looking into going to wwoof in Hawaii as its so beautiful and Ive never been there (Ive wanted to possibly move to hawaii for awhile)

Mehm, I PM'd you, hopefully you can tell me a little more about your experiance, Id love to hear from you.
 
Can anyone who has done this tell me what are some of the better locations to do this (that don't cost too much from the UK!)?

I've just realised how easily I could do this. I could be gone in weeks if I wanted.

p.s is this thread now safe from the "the purge"?
 
Check the WWOOF page Trance, all the info on avilable countries are there. You can do it in most European countries so cheap to fly to from the UK. Depends where you want to go. Do it mate! :D

I was considering doing this whilst in Oz but thought it might be a bit much like hard work for no money, actually sounds quite fun from what I've read here. Defo up for doing it now.
