I am wanting to write a book and get it published. Has anyone here gone through that process? Any input would be grateful.:D

I used to write for my high school newspaper...

I could give my old Journalism teacher a call to see if she could get your book in the latest issue of "Millard South's Common Sense". But aside from that, you'd probably be better off searching for your answers via Google.

I am a published writer (publish individual poems and short stories in literary journals and magazines) and I've written and sell copies of a chapbook of poems, which is basically to literature what a demo tape/CD is to music.

Now here's the thing - I didn't start out wanting to get published, or even wanting to write a book. I don't start a poem or a story even wanting to write a poem or a story. It has to come from the heart, and you have to write because you are a writer, not because you want to be a writer..and especially not because you want to be published. Also, even if you can go into it just because you're "wanting to write a book and get it published" and you actually do it, you'll realize it wasn't worth it. The likelihood of being successful on a first book - much less getting it in print at all - is extremely low. And the thing is - the real truth of the matter is - writing is tough as shit and no one will ever thank you for it. So if you're going to do it, you really have to just want to do it because you love it. Because you are a writer. Because it is what you do and because you have a passion within you driving you to it, forcing you to it even. To write for the sake of publication will only hurt you in the end - and is pointless.

That said, if what you really want to do is write a book - I can give lots of advice. First and foremost, though, is get the book written and edited and perfected fully before you even THINK of publication. Because, also, writing with the idea of sell-ability in the back of your mind (or front) will sabotage you.

Good luck!

Thanks for the advice. I am wanting to write a non-fiction book regarding my what my passion is. Sort of a informational/how to book. TBH I am trying to get my name out there so I can drum up some business. I just wonder how people get to write for magazines and newspapers for like the ask an expert type areas. I just need to get my name out there so my business will get growing and I can get some clients. My business is Animal Behavior Consulting and Dog Obedience Training and name/reputation is all you have to work from. 95% of your business comes from word of mouth.

Thanks :)
