A few months ago i was taking zopiclone (the main sleeping tablet here in the UK) and i entered a pitch black room and had one of the most intense few minute trip ever. There were geometric hexagonal patterns that were neon yellow and neon green and they would stick to my hand like a spider web. And i turn my phone on for some light and look at the floor and its covered with bugs, spiders, scorpions... like this was very intense hallucinations without the psychedelic mind set. i literally crapped by pants because bugs were crawling all over me if i opened my eyes.

looking back it was quite funny. but i think my prior LSD use may of made the zopiclone react to me differently?

Let me know your opinions! thanks

Zopiclone and to a greater extent zolpidem share a lot in common with the sedative-hallucinogen muscimol found in amanita musicaria mushrooms. This substance too acts on GABA albeit in a different way.
I have never tried amanitas, nor experienced visuals from zopiclone but I find zolpidem to be quite "trippy" in a strange and unique way. Zopiclone provides quite a relaxed and confused state that is different from benzos.

Fuck yes. I've had horrific hallucinations from zopiclone- walls breathing, moving orbs of light, peoples hair going apeshit, bugs....

On the whole it was a lot closer to delirium hallucinations than any sort of LSD type psychedelic. Weird shit. Plus by the time you've taken enough to see really wacky shit you're generally really monged out anyway, so it's a very different thing to seeing shit on LSD- I mean, I really didn't give a shit that there were weird visuals.

I can't decide if zopiclone are recreational or not...I suppose they are, but they cause such bad amnesia what the fuck is the point?

Take heaps for best (worst?) effect!

the z-drugs act via exactly the same mechanism as benzodiazepines, i.e. binding at the BZD-binding site of the GABA receptor and modulating it. muscimole, on the other hand, is a direct GABA-agonist that binds to the same site of the receptor as GABA itself. so, even though it is tempting to think of zoplidem hallucinations as similar to muscimol hallucinations, this doesn't make sense pharmacologically, and I can also tell from my own experience that those drugs are completely different: zolpidem causes terrible alcohol-like intoxications with uncontrolled behaviour and memory loss that sometimes go along with minor hallucinations. the fly agaric, on the other hand, is a very powerful entheogen capable of producing full ego-loss. IMHO the muscimole experience cannot be compared to any other drugs, especially not the z-drugs.

Hey

I messed around a LOT with Zopiclone (and its still my sleeper of choice)... i've taken up to about 40mg at once and have never once hallucinated, but it DOES give me a good buzz and if i don't go to sleep it actually has stimulant type properties (EG makes me talkative, increases concentration)... BUT - The next morning I can NEVER remember ANYTHING about the entire time I was on it. I actually had to start writing a summary of the night so that when I woke up I had some idea of important conversations I might have had or things i needed to remember. And furter to that big doses also have a bit of a hangover, but no worse than booze, I really enjoyed Zopiclone, but i stopped because of the blackouts, and the damage they must have been doing to my brain. But i maintain it is an excellent sleeping aid, kicks ass over Temazepam or Nitrazepam. Haven't tried Zolpidem. Both Zopiclone and Zolpidem are well known for causing sleep walking and vivid dreams. And i heard that they actually sell Zopiclone on the street as a recreational drug in Scotland. (sheesh they must be pretty desperate)
