randycaver, a friend with very similar vision to yours has looked into getting lasik done a year ago. The risk of retinal detachment does not change, from what she's been told. Also, the surgery would not have given her perfect vision, but would rather give her something like -2, give or take, so she would still have to wear glasses, but would be able to get around and actually make out details without glasses better than now. Right now, she has to bring her face to within a few inches of yours to be able to make out your eyes, nose, etc.
