Harm Minimisation Or Social Chatter, What Is Bluelight Really For?

Originally posted by Fetish Jester:

There was a similar thread along those lines in the 'Announcements for Webmaster' section of the site.
That thread ended in the administrator Abygale saying:
We went around the issue of user quizzes quite exhaustively, and came to the conclusion that there weren't enough pros to outweigh the cons for the idea.
As for making it more difficult to register, we answer that question on a pretty regular basis as well, and the answer that seems to always win is: the morons are the ones who need the help of the board the most. If we make it too difficult to register, we'll be hindering the effectiveness of the board in serving its stated goal of harm reduction.
Elitism isn't supposed to have any place on BL (note I said "isn't supposed to..."). As much as I'd like to maintain a higher lowest common denominator, it isn't going to happen (unless the sentiment of the majority has drastically changed since last time this came up).

And closing the thread :\
Good idea tho.

I gave some more thought about the social subscription idea from page two and I no longer think it would help Bluelight. :\ So I started over again....
What is Bluelight really about? Go ahead and click on the "About" button. Bluelight has no mission statement or description of purpose! Why is that?
[I will pass along my specific ideas about a mission statement through the proper channels.]
Yeah, we can have fun along the way, but if I only wanted entertainment, there are plenty of message boards much more interesting than Bluelight. Even when overshadowed by social chatter, drug discussion is still the best part of Bluelight.
