Hangover "cures?"

I was in Tofino this past weekend, and I saw in the pharmacy a commercial hangover cure. Ingredient list: Calcium chloride, vegetable extract, cellulose (?) and a few other odds and ends. It came in a pack of 6 costing around $2 a pill. I say: do my electrolyte drink and drink a V8 if you can stomach it in the morning. Else eat an apple.

I've started drinking sports drinks when I wake up with a hangover (Lucozade, Gatorade, etc). Especially since one of my friends lost so much potassium after drinking that she almost fell into a coma :(

For every glass/shot of alcohol, I try to drink a glass of water.

I try to eat something oily (favorite is fried mushrooms :D) before and during drinking to get my tract coated.

And lastly, when all else fails, I put cold packs to my head and try to puke. My post-drinking maladies are really more of the vomiting than the headache sort. I had a life-long aversion to puking and this would result in me lying in bed til dinner trying not to move and in supreme discomfort. Once I began facing up to it, I felt so much better-- before noontime, even.

Agreed. If you're too far gone for quick remedies to be of aid, then just get it over with and purge the poison. You'll feel better far sooner than you don't. Just be sure to have enough water and a bite to eat afterwards.

I find that I don't get to that point as often anymore, now that I know where my limits are. Although I did get pretty close a few weeks ago at a redneck 'Country' wedding. Drinking the better part of a 26 of crappy gin (I was the only one there drinking gin, so it was easy to gauge) does not make for a happy Dave.

Anytime i've been hungover, i woke up took, took an aspirin, ate a nice breakfast (as much as i felt comfortable eating) and went back to lay down and watch tv for a while.. relaxation is really what helps me the most. just thought id throw it out there.

But... eating something first makes it so much harder to drink yourself silly. Silly ;)

Oh, not too much , just a little bit so I dont feel sick after drinking myself silly the whole night ;) Nothing heavy or huge definitey, just a few bites of protein and some complex carbs and I'm set for the whole night!

I know. I was being a bit sarcastic. Hence the wink.

:)

lol only saw this now :D

Also, I absolutely hate vomiting. Life long aversion - LOL so true! I vomit maybe on average once a year or even one every two years, I am not a person who easily pukes and I only do if I am EXTREMELY riproaring drunk which is quite rare because I know my threshold pretty well. Ugh, puking.

Sauteed mushrooms or gambas al ajillo is perfect for coating the stomach ;)
