Hallucinogenic salvia set to be banned in Canada

OTTAWA – The Conservative government is expected to fulfill a four-year-old promise to add salvia to its list of controlled substances, Global News has learned.

After making the promise in 2011, Health Canada is set to add the sage specifies S. divinorum to the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act, making it illegal to possess, traffic and produce it.

“We’ve done our due diligence, we’ve done the studies, we know that these are used by young kids as hallucinogens,” Paul Calandra, parliamentary secretary to the prime minister, said in an interview.

“They aren’t healthy, they’re not safe, and that’s why we are moving to listing these as banned drugs.”

Salvia is found in a powerful Mexican plant that can cause hallucinations, memory loss and anxiety when smoked.

Lame.

Yeah, right when we think things are Movin foward for recreational drug use they ban salvia of all things.

All those salvia heads pawning shit and suckin dicks....

Sucks.

Glad I don't live in Canada but hopefully they don't ban it in the U.S.

Nobody who uses Salvia commits crimes under the influence anyway.

Shit, how could anyone, it only lasts about 5--10 mins??

Fucking retards.

A growing development I find deeply disturbing is the mindset that the activity of getting high is IN ITSELF the problem to be battled rather than any actual harm that might be a side effect of drug use.

That makes zero sense...I didn't know enouh ppl smoked that crap to make it worth making illegal...salvia...brilliant.

What's next

Not anything good. The good drugs that are currently legal are under their radar, for now. Sally D had a bunch of youtube videos of kids going crazy, none of the new LSD like drugs have that kind of attention. In fact I am not even mentioning these chems by name anymore.
And when Salvia gets banned its going to be the head shops that see the crackdown. If you wanted a live plant all you need to do is google "diviners sage canada". Or buy it now. I am surprised it took this long I thought it would be banned 15 years ago.

So really what they've done though is just create more demand for it.

I mean I don't know of anyone who has ever bought Salvia on the street, only on the internet.

But you can be sure that by making it illegal in Canada they will create a whole new market for street dealers to sell Salvia.

And the odd thing about it is that Salvia really isn't a great recreational substance, it often leaves VERY jarring experiences and only lasts a few minutes.

But banning things has a way of making them more attractive and for sure there will end up being MORE people interested in trying Salvia now that it's banned in Canada.

The war on drugs just needs to end....ALL OF IT...everywhere.

Fucking legalize EVERYTHING.

No exceptions.

Yep, definitely a step backward on the path to a rational, functional drug policy.

I'm not sure why it has not been made illegal in all 50 states in the United States.

Making it illegal either in the United States or Canada is not going to solve anything as people who want to use it will get it and use salvia.

yes ban the drug that is unrewarding with almost no desire to repeat it and isnt that pleasant when on it

^they prob made it illegal because thinking you are a washing machine or a brickwall being built is so...

Are you saying you think it SHOULD be made illegal in the U.S.?

And if so, why?

IMO people should be able to use drugs in the privacy of their own homes, ESPECIALLY something which doesn't cause serious damage like Salvia.

It has now been scheduled. It was put in schedule IV, so it's at least still legal to possess.

If, for some reason, you'd really like to legally buy salvia, you have 180 days to do it before the new rule comes in to force.

The banning of salvia is like a mark that a societies leaders do not understand drugs. Dedicating funding or even just hours to something that will not make a single difference is a large waste of resources, even if it is just someones time, that is time that could be spent on something more productive.

I am sure the only people who will care and will be impacted are people who use it as a sacrament. There most likely is a tiny subdivision of people who truly use it as a religious thing and I mean are not teenagers who think thats what they are doing and maybe they dont even post on bluelight or anything like that but it is such a powerful substance that it must have a very dedicated cult following, for better or worse, and those are the people i feel bad for. Who cares if some 16 year old wont be transported into the worst trip of his life because his friends said it was a party drug lol

I've never been one to get spiritual about my psychedelic experiences, but still, I think smoking salvia is an experience worth having, and I do find it sad that people (yeah, even stupid teenagers like I was when I did it) will have less access to that kind of experience.
