hallucinagenic opiates?

Ive been seeing random posts mentioning hallucinagenic opiates/semi hallucinagenic opiates and have done a few searches and have found nothing on them. I am interested in finding out more about these seeings how they could be the best of both worlds... any info would be helpfull (i.e. names of the chemicals so i could do other searches at places such as erowid.) thanks.
 
not adviseable--but doing enough heroin and trying to fiht the drowsy sense of mind I get surely makes me halucinate.........
 
I would suggest searching the trip reports forum. Try "oxycontin" or "heroin" and names of psychedelics.
 
Here is my theory - I think that all opiates can cause pseudo-hallucinations, because they tend to push the user strongly to the hypnogogic state, the state in between being fully awake and being totally asleep - you know, when you're laying there nodding off, your thoughts are blurring, eyelids getting heavy, almost half asleep, visual and oral hallucinations are common in this state, but they should instantly go away if you do anything to wake yourself back up, like sitting up or something. I have had quite a few aural and visual hallucinations while nodding off on oxy - right before I fall asleep, I hear sounds, see things on the walls, but if I move around at all they go away. People who are sedated with morphine during surgery also report hallucinations in half consciousness pretty often too. Maybe other sleep aids such as dramamine and ambien induce hallucinations in this manner too, by keeping you in the hypnogogic state where hallucinations naturally occour? Just a thought.
 
Well I have seen claims that Petazocine is hallucinagenic. Supposedly it is also fairly unpleasant but it is the T in T's and Blues. Can anyone who has experience tell us if this is true?
Also supposedly Cyclazocine was originally used as a pain medication but taken off the market because of frequent occurence of hallucinations.
Someone has also told me cyclorphan was as well.

All strong opioids can cause a sort of hallucinations, sort of like being able to dream while you are still awake.... this is common during the "nod." I have however come across references to opioids with active hallucinogenic properties; alas I don't remember the names of the drugs or where I found the references. I do remember it being suggested that they were somewhat unpleasant.
 
Codeine gives me this strange visual effect, not really a hallucination... Whenever I close my eyes, there is a faint rythmic strobe-like flashing.. It appears in lots of dfferent colors. It's really relaxing and great to fall asleep too. This happens every time on a dose above 160 mgs.

Cyclazocine and cyclorphan (a morphinan, like levomethorphan, interesetingly - i.e. the enantiomer of dextromethorphan), as quale mentioned, are reportedly "hallucinogenic." If I remember correctly, these opiates in general exhibit mixed agonism/antagonism at the mu-receptor and strong agonism at kappa. Kappa-agonism is hypothesized to modulate the activity of dopaminergic neurons and appears to alter the behavioral effects of cocaine. They've been shown to block the effects of cocaine in squirrel monkeys, anyway. So people are looking into the use of kappa-agonists as a treatment for cocaine abuse.
 
I am aware of the "nodding state" from oxys and Heroin, it is in fact part of the reason opiates are my favorite drugs. When i made this post i was misinformed that there were research chemicals that were hallucinagenic opiate compounds. thanks for the information.
 
Lets not forget dextromehorphan, which is technically also an opiate. Besides the obvious NMDA anagonism, I recall that DXM is a strong sigma agonist, which I think adds to the hallucinatory effects. I think that the sigma receptor subtype is debatable, but it could also play a role with some of the other opiates.
I'll say one thing for DXM, though. It is bar none one of the most halluciogenic substances I know of.
As I recall, opium is also very trance inducing, creating the same effects described with other drugs, and some compounds in the plant extract may lean more that way.
 
I don't think you would classify DXM as an opiate. It's like me calling me left arm my right arm 'cuz I saw it in a mirror. And anyway, if you do call it an opiate you'll have to mess with the boys over at the Robopreciation Thread.
 
Whether or not DXM is an opiate is somewhat fuzzy. On the one hand it is similar to one of the major active components in the opium poppy, namely codeine. Thus the definition of opiate as those chemicals similar to the chemicals found in the opium poppy would indeed make DXM an opiate.
However, in my opinion a much more reasonable way to define opiate (or maybe I am really talking about opiods..I can never remember) is by action on the opiate receptors. In which case DXM (being an NMDA antagonist no?) really should not be considered an opiate. Given the context of the question, abusable drugs not pure chemistry, this is certainly the correct definition in this place.
 
No, by any definiton it is not an opioid. As milquetoast pointed about above, DXM is a stereoisomer of the opioid levomethorphan. Reflect levomethorphan (l-methorphan) through a mirror, and you have dextromethorphan (d-methorphan or DXM).
The l isomer binds to opioid receptors, whereas the d isomer acts as an antagonist at NMDA glutamate receptors (and maybe at the PCP sigma site, don't rmemember).
