Had a mild serotonin intoxication...just wanting advice on how to ride it out...

I had an interaction with cymbalta and tramadol that has left me quite cognitively impaired, pretty anxious, and still not able to sleep, which is what the cymbalta has slowly been doing to me the past few days (just started taking it 10 days ago so didn't exactly see that one coming; I've had about 10 hours of sleep since Sunday). I just want to know what can I take to help make this slightly more bearable with what I have around and maybe actually be able to calm down and get to sleep.

I don't have much but would I be able to take large-ish doses of diphenhydramine hcl/citrate, any amount of seroquel, or melatonin combined with valerian root and passion flower? I would just google it, but it's taken about 10 minutes for me to type this, so not exactly at research capacity atm lol...

Um... if you are having a Case of serotonin syndrome.. the First thing is DON'T TAKE ANYMORE DRUGS... adding something else to it is likely to exacerbate the issue and make it worse, Second thing is Get to a Hospital. .GO NOW. serotonin syndrome is not a Joke, it can be potentially lethal if it is a strong case Tramadol is not a safe drug to mix mostly anything with. .it has a Lot of interactions.. if you feel the syndrome is getting worse. .then Get to a Hospital NOW!!. There is no way a Bunch of Drug addicts on a Forum can give you an accurate diagnoses.. you need a doctor

Are you still ok or is it getting worse? How long has it been since you took the tramadol (assuming you took the Cymbalta first and the tramadol second)? Please at least post to let us know you are alright.

ETA: I will post more detailed info in a minute, just wanted to quickly post that.

Which of these symptoms do you have:

Mild symptoms:
- increased heart rate
- shivering and/or sweating
- dilated pupils
- tremors or twitching
- headache

Moderate symptoms: The mild symptoms plus:
- loudly rumbling tummy
- high blood pressure
- hyperthermia: a temperature as high as 104 °F (40 °F)
- overactive leg reflexes
- very agitated

Severe symptoms: Mild + Moderate + the following:
- severe increases in heart rate and blood pressure (may lead to shock)
- temperature above 106 °F (41 °C)
- seizures

Are the symptoms getting worse, staying the same or getting better? How long have you had the symptoms?

Without knowing more I can't really know what advice to give you. If it is just a very mild reaction and you are sure there is no need to seek medical attention, then I would suggest taking the natural supplements you have as those should be the safest.

Sorry about not posting back, I just said fuck it after doing some research and finding that seroquel was a serotonin antagonist...I feel very very weak today, but not quite as psychotic as I did last night. Went by the pharmacy for advice and he said to lay off my tramadol and try to get my doc to call in seroquel...I had been taking 30mg cymbalta daily, 400mg tramadol daily, and then this morning I realized my anxiety medication, buspar, which I was taking 15mg daily, was also an SSRI...

as far as symptoms I was having out of those you listed were increased heart rate/blood pressure, tremors/twitching, overactive leg reflexes, agitation, stomach disturbances, and I wasn't hyperthermic but my tempurature was definitely higher than normal...so I guess I had a moderate case of it...I just don't know what to do about my chronic pain though...about to go to a clinic because the on-call physician at the office I'm prescribed ALL of these medications said he couldn't help me because he's not a psych/doesn't prescribe these types of medications...worthless...

You should really be getting treatment for this, even if you don't go to hospital, your doctor should have given you benzos to treat your tremor and agitation. Serotonin syndrome is a serious condition that could very well result in permanent muscle and kidney damage. And your doctor must be a complete fuckwit if he prescribed several SRIs together.

I'm really not sure what else to tell you if you've already stopped using all your drugs, the only thing that can help you now is medical attention. Should note that if you see your piss going brown, that's a sign to go to hospital ASAP as that's your kidneys failing.

Went to the urgent care clinic; he didn't think I had been on the buspar and cymbalta long enough to cause it, but he sent me home with 20 1-mg clonazepams that are to last me 10 days and he wants me to see my doctor on monday. He said I could start taking my tramadol and flexeril again, so that's a bit of a relief. I'm not going to take anymore of the cymbalta or buspar though, and I think I'll never agree to go on an SSRI again after this lol. I swear, they're like poison.

Yeah, if you need an anti-depressant there are some like Bupropion that aren't an SSRI or an MAOI-inhibiter, so they have way less contraindications and side effects.

I've tried bupropion, abilify, and seroquel in the passed for depression...the bupropion made me irritable, the abilify did nothing, and the seroquel put me in a coma...and I ain't going anywhere near MAOI's...you can't take anything with those just about...

When I experienced a mild Serotonin Syndrome from one of my own stupid concoctions (DXM + Doxy + Bupe). I was so fucking scared, my mind and body were going berserk!

Valium and talking with my mom definitely saved my ass that night. Will never make that mistake again and pay much closer attention to serotogenic drug cocktails in avoidance.

^^if u'r talkijng about doxlyamine, DXM, & Buprenorphine I dont understand how those are dangerous to mix.
which are dangerous to mix. I know u cant take Tramadol with any SSRIs or SNRIs. Im interested in dangerous combo if anyone knows of any other. Dont just say stuff like opiates & benzos or benzos & alcohol cuz they're fairly safe if u use lower doses than normal & are used to both substances. Ive never personally seen the danger in alcohol & benzos but im sure it is dangerous to some ppl so dont try it just cuz i can take em together. I personally passed out one time years & years ago when I mixed dxm, alcohol & pot. u can imagine how fucked up that combo would get ya. I think it was dangerous. But SSRIs with Tramadol is dangerous in any doses. & id like to know of any others?
Ive been taking different stuff like seroquel lately. i hope they're ok to take with benzos. Is there a thread on dangerous combos?
dxm must have some dangerous combos. ive tried many drugs & it's still out there as one of the most powerful. & I could go buy a bottle of the stuff right now if i wanted. strange that. u can act straight on acid. ya stagger around everywhere on dxm
