O.K. So I have seen a lot of people posting recently concerned about having seizures from benzo w/d.

So those of you who have had said seizure;
What was your dosage?
What benzo?
How long?
How long after stopping did it happen?

I have done research on the internet, and it says that a very small percentage of people that stop benzos acutally have seizures... I say b.s. because most ppl that have seizure are not calling up to document it. I think the stats are from detoxs and/or ER admissions.

So shed some light on the subject, those unfortunate benzo induced seizure sufferers.
 
had benzo withdrawal induced seizure

My dosage was 6mg a day

Benzo: Xanax

How long taking it : About 15 yrs.

How long after stopped taking it: 3 days
 
Very interesting thread. I will be following this one carefully, I'm interested in seeing how many people have actually seized from benzo withdrawals.
 
Had a Benzo induced WD Seizure

Dosage: 2.5-3mg daily

Benzo: Xanax

Time Used: 16 months

How Long After Cessation : 3 days

2 Seizures in 12 hrs. Required 2 trips to ER.

Had NO idea why I had a seizure then upon being released from ER the first time was given a piece of paper about seizures and it said that they could occur from Benzo WD. I told the nurse this was what caused my seizure and was sent home.

On the way home, I suffered from another seizure and had to go back to the Hospital.

DMV got word of the seizures and put me on probation. I had to have forms filled out by my DRs noting that the seizures were from WDs and not re-occurring.

I had NO idea that Benzo WD could cause seizures. Now I know better - wish I had tapered off and done my research. Stupid, Stupid, Stupid.

Yes, it happens. My dosage was 2mg/3 times a day (Ativan). When I tried to taper off on my own, I had seizures. 5 in all before I quit taking it at all. Every seizure occurred when I was bending over (petting a dog was the last one). Ambulance came to the house on 3 of them. I remember the beginning of the seizures but nothing after, except staring paramedics in the face with their penlights. Why would anyone make up having a withdrawl seizure? Its a terrible experience.:(

The only benzo I went off of was Xanax. I did not have a seizure.. I also skipped my Klonopin for 3 weeks one time and was only taking minimal amounts of Xanax I didn't have a seizure but I think I was close because I was feeling really fucking weird... Klonopin WD's fucking suck but I was on so much Oxy I didn't realize it until I had a psychotic episode... I took my klonopin and felt completely normal again.

Anyways. I am down to 4 mg of valium, and have been taking 2mgs a day when I can. I know it is a low dose, but I have been on xanax from 2005-2009, and then valium to taper. I went to the doc at my school after the psychiatrist cancelled my appt, and told him that my script was up, and my appt was cancelled so I was screwed. I told him that I was afraid of having a seizure, and he told me not to worry, and sent me on my merry way. wtf?

I would go to the ER and explain you are out of your benzos and they will carry you and even put you on a taper plan.

If you do have health problems from benzo WD sue the fuck out of your school dr.

I ended up getting a 30 day script from the dr. I had all my records at the school, showing that I had been prescribed benzos for years so he finally gave in and wrote the script. That was last year btw. He also said that it was the only xanax script that he had ever written. Thats rural northern ny for ya.

and @B25Bulas, myI though that you just quoted my post and put sad faces under it. I didn't realize that you posted answers in there.

i was on diazepam 15mg/day (3 or 4 month prescription lasted 5-6months) to manage what were almost certainly seizures that were caused by a prescription for tramadol.

Whenever i lowered the dose 2.5mg to attempt to titrate (as i knew i would eventually run out as i couldn't afford my doc cuz i lost my job) the seizures would return almost full force. Stopping the very last 1mg/day was the most difficult. i was in bed for a few weeks after...

Im definately at one end of the spectrum for this cuz of the pre-existing seizure issues tho.
