On Friday, the World Anti-Doping Agency took the rare step of warning that they are finding GW-501,516 regularly in drug tests (imagine that) and that it is extremely toxic and everyone should stop taking it immediately.

They cited this 2009 reference: http://www.toxicology.org/AI/Pub/Tox/2009Tox.pdf

If you search the document for 501516 and PPAR, you'll find a number of articles that basically say two things:

1. PPAR-delta agonism, GW-501516 in particular seems to cause cancer throughout the body at doses 100-1000x the typical dose.

2. COX-2 inhibition is useful to prevent it.

Just sayin'

I take GW-501, and I have for a while now.

The reason why I'm not too worried is that many chemicals we take are toxic at high doses.

100x the normal dose, say 5mgs, is an absurd dose to take. I've never went higher than 20mgs.

Nevertheless, thanks for the info!

Thanks for the warning. I'm not taking this though, and I doubt anyone would take 100x+ a normal dosage on purpose.

...and here's the molecule...

Read the reference. They're saying all doses they tested, not just the high ones. 5mg/kg for instance. That's 250mg per day for someone who weighs 50kg. That will cause cancer throughout your body. I've noticed at as little as 10mg to 40mg per day, that it is way too strong for my taste. My tongue has sore spots, I get headaches, even skin sores. It goes away when I stop taking it. If I kept it down to 10mg each day, it is not as bad. Yet, I would not be surprised if people who use this long term end up with some serious problems.

Also it can protect against some cancers, when combined with a COX-2 inhibitor.

It would be nice if there was a drug close to as powerful as this one that didn't carry the same risks. I can attest, it is very powerful. And very risky.

When I read it, i was shocked - literally felt myself like a guinea pig, and now i completly understand term - "research chemical"
Thought i never went above 20mg of this stuff, for this moment i'm quite concerned about my health and how to check it.

I think people should be really careful with GW-501516 and at a minimum take it with Tribulus (as discussed earlier in this forum), or just avoid it completely. Yes, it's nice stuff, but probably not the right stuff. Especially long term.

There is a prescription drug that acts as a angiotensin receptor type-2 antagonist, which also functions as a PPAR-gamma agonist. It's Telmisartan. It is rumored to have very similar effects to AICAR and GW 501516 but it isn't a research drug, it's a regular prescription drug and easily, cheaply available online.

It also has a structure that is in the same neighborhood as GW 501516...but if it isn't nearly as toxic, it's a much better choice.

This is why you always wait a while after a new performance enhancing drug comes out. I had warned people about this compound.

There is some pretty lively discussion on the Wikipedia GW501516 Talk page regarding the meaning of the studies and how they apply in the real world

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talk:GW_501516

A bloke from Australia is trying to "set the record straight" that the evidence of cancer isn't quite what it seems.

A nice, lively discussion, although no comparisons to Nazis have been made yet.
