Currently in progress and the reports are scarce. I hope anyone else in the city is safe.

Witnesses say police officers were seen running through King George Square towards the mall.

The incident reportedly began when an argument broke out between three men at the food court at the Myer Centre.

One of those men then took off his shirt and produced a gun, described as either a sawn-off shotgun or a pistol.

The Courier Mail quoted witnesses saying the man "looked like a bikie and high as a kite".

I was in Queen St Mall about 20mins before this happened, sucks I didn't get to see it.

Didn't look like a bikie at all, just some bogan with no shirt on who clearly had some kind of mental condition. Some reporter said he had a problem with drug addiction in the past so he probably was pretty messed up. Bath salts?

When I was in year 10 at school i witnessed the final stages of a police chase and stand off. The guy was driving an old ford falcon and had just robbed a bank. He had his GF in the car. He was forced to stop at an intersection on Miller and Falcon St North Sydney and the police nudged him out into the intersection, the front of the car got cleaned up by a bus. The guy jumped out with a rifle and started running, jumping fences.

The police eventually got the guy and I watched as all the money and things from bags were emptied on the pavement from the car. It was all round an interesting experience for a school student wagging class.

yeah it was on the news, he got shot with bean bags or whatever the hell those things are first, then they thought he pulled the gun on them so they shot him, but I think they said he's ok and in custody.

UPDATED
A gunman involved in a 90-minute showdown with police in the Queen Street Mall blew off his fingers and part of his bicep last week.
The man, 34, was found bloodied on a northern Brisbane suburb street corner on February 25 and reportedly screamed at paramedics "I've blown my own fingers off" after a worried neighbour called 000.

A handmade gun was found near some of his fingers and he also blew part of his bicep off.

He underwent emergency surgery at the Royal Brisbane and Women's Hospital to try to save some of his fingers.

Police shot the man with rubber bullets on Friday afternoon after he roamed the Myer Centre and Queen Street Mall armed with a gun for about 90 minutes.

The mall was locked down at 11.20am after the man, a father of three according to his Facebook profile, threatened officers with what they believe was a handgun, while they were doing random street checks in the Myer Centre.

The man reportedly ripped off his shirt and threatened the officers with a gun, sparking what Maxine Anderson described as "mass panic".

"I was on an escalator and the Myer employees ran out screaming 'run, there's a man with a gun'," she said.

"I tried to get out the main entrance but they closed it off and I had to go through Elizabeth Street."

Ms Anderson said people were running for the exits and it took just five minutes for the shopping centre to basically become deserted.

The entire mall was evacuated and taxi driver Tariq Khan witnessed the final moments of the siege just before 1pm.

"Shoot me, shoot me," he said the gunman was yelling at police.

He said at one stage the gunman was offered, and accepted cigarettes, and had a smoke.

The siege ended when officers fired two shots, which are believed to be rubber bullets, just before 1pm.

They said the man suffered "minor injuries" and was taken by ambulance to Royal Brisbane and Women's Hospital.

During the siege, the gunman – believed to be in his 30s – apparently made his way down from the Myer Centre to Hungry Jacks in the mall, terrified shoppers were told as they were evacuated.

Mayra Treacy was shopping in Dotti when the assistants started closing it up, telling her she had to make the decision to stay or go.

"I asked what was going on and they told me there was a gunman at Hungry Jack's," she said.

"And I decided to stay because I thought it would be safer."

Police eventually came to the shop telling everyone to get out and go down to the end of the mall.

Ms Treacy sprinted down the mall with the Dotti shop assistants.

"It caused quite a spectacle," she said.

"You think this type of thing happens in America, not here."

The mall was closed off at the Edward and George Street ends with police yelling at the crowd in Edward Street to go away.

"There is a man with a firearm at the top of the mall," he said.

"If he comes down here, you will all be in danger.

"You need to go back to work or go hang out somewhere else.

Chief Superintendent Mark Ainsworth praised the swiftness of the police response and confirmed it was a random check by plain clothes officers which uncovered the armed man.

"Police have done an exceptional job in containing this man where he is," he said.

Keiran McCarthy was in the historic Bank of NSW building when at 11.30am heard shouts and assumed it was a protest but then saw people were being evacuated from mall.

Employees tried to leave the building but were stopped by police.

"Within 10 minutes of that more cars turned up," he said.

"A SERT car moved into position near Milano, the mall was completely cleared.

"But we waited for about an hour, nothing happened and then as quickly as anything I heard two shots."

A woman at the scene said the man was shot with a "beanbag gun" outside of Milano Cafe.

silly bastard didn't even think to go drop into the well known head shop to make use of their products before the cops nailed him, allegedly, with a bean bag gun. he could have just holed himself in there after picking up something from the food court beforehand.

dude certainly looked messed up one way or another.

What i dont understand is. I was under the belief that illeagle firearms offenses in this country are SUPER serious, This guy was caught 2 weeks ago with a handgun after hes shot himself, And he got bail? I'd love to know what he was charged with, My understanding is he was due to appear in court on Tue 12th March....

Dont they give people like this psych evals to see if there fit to be released pending court......

Insane....

I secretly hope the whoever is managing the judicial process to order for a calculation to be made for the commercial losses that all this businesses incurred in the mall and surrounding areas and force him to make restitution. Not lost sales, Just staff wages etc.
