Guilty pleasures in TV & music

I see that she has already been mentioned in a few posts already - Nicki Minaj.
I liked her song 'SuperBass' and love the video for 'Starships', plenty of curves on her and in all the right places.

Love you long time;)

Yeah of course Luke is a fukin legend. The music was lyrically made to shock but the beats are actually quite ahead of their time . But who was listening to the beats ?

We used to love walking around the local shopping area playing "We want some Pussy" as loud as possible.
Typical teenagers out to try and shock the adults.

Yeah we had
images
one of these .

It was a nightmare on batterys we all chipped in . Then it would be Eazy E & Public Enemy

Can you remember the 2 Live Crew from the 80's Brimz?

Haha.

Like Brimz said, the beats (kind of Miami-bass sort of style) were well ahead of their time.

Brimz back in the day =D - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YsFjlLXP9GU

I was struggling to think of any, as even the more embarrassing side of my music collection I'd happily tell people about. In fact, I'd be more likely to. My mate was rallying through my iPod the other week though & found a full Akon album. I took about 3 hours of a slagging for that. No, I don't like Akon lol.

I guess Dipset is my guilty pleasure when it comes to hip hop.

"I get the boosters boosting, I get computers 'puting" eh, what?

Pause. No homo.

It makes me smile seeing that photo Brimz. The old 'ghetto blasters' as we called them. Just think kids today wouldn't have ever seen a cassette player.
Good days indeed mate.

A boy I know took one of them to Ibiza about 5 years ago. iPod in the pocket with an FM transmitter plugged into it. A car seatbelt attached to the ghetto blaster so it could be worn over your shoulder. It was actually loud as fuck. It was great fun bouncing down the beach with that thing until you'd inevitably almost get in a fight which would normally start with a random English girl shouting "Tuuuuuurn that fookin' music daaawwwn" & be met with a roar of laughter from a dozen or so of us as we put something ridiculous on & cranked it full blast. Pretty sure 2 Live Crew would have got blasted at some point %)

I'm now going Dipset daft. Got Diplomatic Immunity absolutely blasting lol.

got a little thing for some early backstreet boys songs. somehow they always manage to find their way when im drunken karaokeing .....

on tv it has to be house. and most things on the discovery channel....

Got to agree with you on Limp Bizkit.I used to absolutely love their 'Chocolate Starfish & hot dog flavoured water' album, knew all the words to all the songs at one stage.

bitch nigga bitch.

It's all about the Shaggs for me from here on in!

It's an actual feat to keep everything out of sync so completely. Presumably the drummer played with no actual knowledge of what the rest of the band was doing. I loved reading that sometimes they'd stop during a recording because one of them had made a "mistake" and they had to start again. Amazing.

My favourite is "My pal foot foot"

At least I am not the only Shaggs fan, people ither HATE them or fall in love with them. For me I think they are amazing & 1 of the best bands ever <3<3<3<3<3<3

EDIT - Just saw this comment & it is 100% right imo
""There's an innocence to these songs and their performances that's both charming and unsettling. Hacked-at drumbeats, whacked-around chords, songs that seem to have little or no meter to them ... being played on out-of-tune, pawn-shop-quality guitars all converge, creating dissonance and beauty, chaos and tranquility, causing any listener coming to this music to rearrange any pre-existing notions about the relationships between talent, originality, and ability. There is no album you might own that sounds remotely like this one."

There was if they heard that back & thought it sounded good. You don't actually think that sounds good. You think it sounds so incredibly bad that it makes it good (you may have a point I suppose, but I don't believe that was their intention).

One of the comments on that Youtube video, which obviously could easily be total bullshit but I'm inclined to believe it..

Talking about the sound engineer - "I heard an interview with him. He said he and his friends were rolling on the floor in the back room the whole time. They had to keep it together - daddy was paying and very serious about this."

May God strike me down dead if I lie here, I really DO think it SOUNDS GREAT.

I admit on my 1st play years ago I was so turned off the music but found myself later that night humming away to "My pal foot foot" the best I could.
I have loved strange music all my life from extreme death metal / Norwegian black metal through to speedcore, Gabber, Breakcore, Aphex Twin, Merzbow & just fucked up drone like Sunn 0)))

I promise you I am a huge fan of The Shaggs, I love their music, I really do think it is great (like a basic White Stripes)
If everyone liked the same stuff it would be a shit world.

You will be singing along by tomorrow I promise you that

Thing is if you listen to the melodies they hit some quite bizarre notes and have some very odd note sequences, but they are consistent throughout the verses. They actually seem to know what they're doing, they just don't seem aware of the normal "rules" of music.
