First I would just like to credit this find to a poster named mimac who originally posted this in DitM here http://www.bluelight.ru/vb/showthread.php?t=499944
I decided it was worth posting in Australian Drug Discussion, because Australian drugs are examined alongside drugs from other countries and regions so a lot is quite relevant to the Australian drug user.

Also, it seems like not many AusDD posters like to venture too far out side this forum and as a result many may miss this. It seemed far too interesting to me to slip under the radar of most Aussie BLer's so here it is. :D http://www.cph.org.uk/showPublication.aspx?pubid=632

Thanks for the link, D_M.

I wish there was a specific paper published in Australia on Australian drugs and their contaminants though, that would be very helpfull in HR and such =D

There are a lot more impurities than that for methamphetamine and ecstasy that i can think of off the top of my head.
Interesting that Heroin purity was up to 70% in WA but no surprise that QLD had lowest purity of 13.5%.
Also cocaine found to be up to 80% pure in in Western Australia seems like WA is the place for the purest drugs.
This report could have been much better if they had maybe searched erowid and bluelight some of the best drug resource information tools out there.
Here is something i recon most people would disagree with
Most of the tablets
analysed contained only MDMA or an analogue (MDA, MDEA) as the only psychoactive ingredient.
really? from the data i have seen on www.ecstasydata.org i would say nearly half of all tablets contained no mdma http://www.ecstasydata.org/stats.php

^ I found it extremely strange WA would have the purest heroin, I am also curious why you think it is no surprise QLD had lowest purity heroin when it has a few big ports and is closer to Sydney which I thought was the main place cocaine and heroin were imported into Australia first.

It's my understanding that most imports go through Melbourne's ports first, and then are moved afterwards. Thats what happened with that big cocaine bust this week.

I could be wrong, but thats always what I've been told from people in the know.

TS14, heroin I could maybe believe primarily came into Melbourne, although I see it as doubtful. Given the price, purity, availability and overall scene in NSW compared to the rest of Australia it seems a fair bet the majority of our cocaine is coming in through there.

Really, who's to say? That would make logical sense to me to. However ounce its in the country, moving interstate isnt much of an issue compared to the original importation.

Seems to be a fair amount of coke in melbourne of late to, availability seems to be up significantly right now from what I've seen/heard.

Melbourne ports seem to attract the most attention in relation to busts and known corruption and I'd say there's a reason for that but its really hard to say where and how everything gets in.

As far as user base goes it would make more sense for it to hit sydney directly but if its easier to get it in through another port and move interstate I'd say more people would be going for that option.

^ That is a fair point, obviously any talk of where drugs are imported is speculation, nobody who really knew would be dumb enough to be posting it on here.

There is no logical reason why cocaine would come into Melbourne over Sydney that I am aware of, quite the opposite, but clearly there are many factors at play in the drug importation business your average Joe like myself are not aware of. ;)

as far as common ports, queensland seems to only have direct connections with shipping containers and air cargo from HK, the rest for that side of the country, goes through Sydney (which is around 75% of our international mail) the other 24.9% is Melbourne. And the other .1% seems to be the other smaller ports around the country.

This is just what i'm told, i'm not sure how factual all that is.

Sorry to go off-topic but regarding the importation of drugs into this country, who knows how alot of it enters the borders. Ship/air-ports are certainly not the only way they get in.

Australia has a massive coastline (particularly WA) which is simply impossible for authorities to keep tabs on any unusual vessels approaching often in very remote areas.

The case of the bloke who rowed a huge quantity of cocaine from a foreign container ship passing by the coast and then burying it somewhere along the WA coastline in the dunes to be later recovered from whoever was to dig it up and collect it springs to mind. Unfortunately for this guy the feds were aware of the suspicious dinghy, watched and let him bury the drugs. Then replaced the cocaine with some 'fake' cocaine after he'd left and then waited for those who were coming to dig it up and collect the large haul of cocaine and arrested the lot of them.
