I am 17 years old, and there is only one store in my city that I know of that sells DXM-containing products to minors. This store only sells one product that has DXM as the only active ingredient; Robitussin Long Acting Cough Syrup. However, the store doesn't always have this in stock. So whenever the store is out of stock, I resort to Coricidin Cough and Cold pills (CCC's). Yes, I know these are bad for you, and I only will do these when I have to, until I'm 18 years old (3 months away
). So right now the Store is out of Robitussin syrup, and CCC's, so I'm in a pickle. Basically I have two options to get DXM at the moment:
- Nyquil Cough (30mg DXM, 6.25mg Doxylamine Succinate per 30ml)
- I forget the name of the pills (60mg DXM, 1200mg Guaifenesin per pill)
The Nyquil Cough comes in a 12 oz. bottle which contains 355mg DXM. I have drunk a half a bottle of Nyquil Cough before, and did not fall asleep or have any bad side effects. However, 12 oz. of syrup is a lot for me, the most syrup I have ever drunk in one sitting has been 8 oz. of Robitussin. Also, the Nyquil Cough tastes slightly worse then Robitussin. On top of that, Drinking 12 oz. of Nyquil for only 355mg DXM isn't worth it, unless I get desperate.
The second option would be preferred if I could extract the Guaifenesin from the pills. According to erowid.org, Guaifenesin is soluble in cold water at 1g/20ml, and DXM is 1.5%-25% soluble in cold water. I was planning to crush 10-15 pills and then use this method:
- Crush 10 pills (would be 12g Guaifenesin, 600mg DXM)
- Fill a jar with 240ml cold water (1g/20ml for Guaifenesin soulubility)
- Put the crushed pills in the jar. Stir, and wait for the DXM to settle on the bottom.
- Use a coffee strainer to empty the liquid Guaifenesin while keeping the DXM in the jar.
- Eat the DXM, or wait for it to turn into powder and snort.
If this method works, I will crush another 5-10 pills, as I am aiming to reach a high 3rd/4th plateau (900mg+ DXM for me).
My only question is that since the Guaifenesin is soluble in water, that means that it would be in liquid form, and mixed with the water, right? And since DXM is mostly unsoluble in water, it would stay in solid form, on the bottom of the jar, right? Or would it be the other way around? I never really cared for chemistry class, and I don't want to end up eating the Guaifenesin.
So which option do you guys think is the better option? And also if you have extracted Guaifenesin from DXM pills or syrup, please give me feedback on my hypothesis above.
P.S. Please don't say only stick with products that list DXM as the only active ingredient, I know that this is recommended. I will switch to perminantly using DXM-only products when I turn 18, which is in about 3 months. Thanks!
