Hello! Noob here...
I thought I'd finally register as a member as I regularly read informative posts and think this is a great non-biased educational site that has increased my knowledge and decreased my ignorance on certain subjects and topics.
I have a long history of drug use and misuse, with opiates being a particular love story of mine. I am from the United Kingdom and I am currently three months into a government-approved methadone maintenance program. I have been 'stabilised' at 60mg/d and currently on supervised daily consumption of my dose.
My drugs of choice were IV heroin and, later on, I combined this with IV crack cocaine. I am currently on an SSRI (citalopram) which I am slowly reducing given the potential QT-interval prolongation with methadone (as advised by my GP). I also smoke cannabis recreationally and I am particularly interested in the medicinal and therapeutic properties of this drug.
I trained and worked as an Emergency Nurse however I was unable to continue in this profession given my addiction and subsequent physical and mental health problems. I am currently undertaking a court-ordered community rehabilitation requirement which comprises of twice-weeks and random drug urine screens, and mandatory attendance to recovery groups. My interests include journalism, music, spirituality, travel, health, politics and social policy.
My current personal interests and projects are the use of Kratom (Mitragyna speciosa) in opiate dependency and withdrawal. I am also conducting a concise literature review on the therapeutic use of cannabis in the treatment of cancer. I am currently unemployed and this kills some time... And yes I am a bit of a geek!
