great things to read while stoned

seriously, if you can get hold of 'the scar' by China Mieville you won't regret reading it. It's just amazing how detailed the world he describes becomes the further you get into it. It's about a floating city made up from old pirated boats and centres around a centraql character called Bellis Coldwine.

I couldn't descibe it all, it'd take ages, but really really, GO GET IT!!!

Thanks for all the great suggestions!

An easy and fun read is "Nico" by James Young. Another old favorite of mine is "Brave New World" by Aldous Huxley.

It all makes sense when on shrooms. So many things make sense when you are on mushrooms but them you forget why something made sense when the trip ends.

The Electric Kool-Aid Acid Test by Tom Wolfe.

Come on you know it makes sense. You can be right there in the moment with the whole she-bang or ...

You can be off the bus!

Either way its a FANTASTIC read and while at the same time its a very very familiar experience that you cannot wait to begin!

good lord i cant even follow along for more than about 3 or 4 sentences when im stoned. no way can i read stoned!

electric Kool-aid acid test was a fantastic high read.. it can get confusing but if you focus it can be rewarding

Dopeland or He Died With a Felafel in His Hand, by John Birmingham.

As a stoner, his work tends to be a string of stoned rants, which is great for people with pot affected memories - you dont need to remember what happened 5 pages ago because he's onto something different :)

He Died with a Felafel in His Hand:

John Birmingham has lived with eighty-nine people and kept notes on all of them. This is their story.

'A rat died in the living room at King Street and we didn't know. There was at least six inches of compacted rubbish between our feet and the floor. Old Ratty must have crawled in there and died of pleasure. A visitor uncovered him while groping about for a beer!'

Dopeland

Dopeland follows John Birmingham as he gets paid to travel around Australia in search of its marijuana culture. On his tour he meets the dope smokers of Australia - and finds that they're not what you might expect. In addition to the sci-fi geeks, student activists and Nimbin ferals, he also finds himself smoking with conservative politicians, lawyers, cops, merchant bankers and school teachers.

sorry for the long post but they are both great books :)

i read Bram Stoker's Dracula stoned; great book sober anyway.

trip reports are good. Try Gravity's Rainbow, by Pynchon. It won't make sense, but crazy book. Anything descriptive...I prefer writing stoned to reading

Anything by Bret Easton Ellis. His novels are fucking insane, like nothing else i've ever read. Here are a couple.

American Psycho (movie was a fuckin joke, read the book)
Less than Zero
Glamorama

Ok, now, what I REALLY like to read while stoned. ---

PORNO MAGS!!!! any of them

The Gormenghast Trilogy by Mervyn Peake
He has THE most beautiful prose style, like dickens but with a sinister edge. Read it but be warned have a large dictionary by your side as he uses words i never knew existed. Definately taught me a whole lot about the english language

The first & Second Chronicles of Thomas Covenant by Stephen Donaldson

its about a leper that faces the dilemma of losing his sanity when he suddenly become healed of his unhealable condition. Its very philosophical

Any light-hearted philosophy like Albert Camus, Foucault, etc

try reading anything on mushrooms. I end up reading the same line over and over again, but somehow the line is different each time and I don't notice until I've readit it like 20 times, at which point I laugh in confusion

Bluelight of course, sciencemadness.org, and the unmentionable forum are my favourite online reads, otherwise, the satanic bible, by Anton LaVey, and the regular vanilla-flavor bible are quite interesting reads when out of one's tree.
