Hi!

I’ve been visiting here for a long time, but just decided to finally make an account since I’ve never found anybody stating what I am about to say. Plus I have a question but I’ll make a different thread for that.

One thing I can tell you for certain that works very well for potentiation is in fact grapefruit juice. It has to be 100% no sugar added, Ocean Spray 100% juice is what I use. I used to get one that was white grapefruit juice, but it’s incredibly hard to come by - last I checked, I couldn’t even get it on Amazon, but the type that is in my avatar is one that I can get and do get on Amazon subscribe&save (8 pack I think?) as well as the local grocery store. The grapefruit juice I use now is neither red or white, and if I’m being completely honest, it tastes a lot like vomit. It’s really an acquired taste, and after all this time, I still don’t really like it. But it works! I can’t say I’ve ever really become acquired to the taste, although I do it with much more ease now than I did a few years ago.

I used to follow a recommendation I got from here that said to wait 45 minutes - it said something like T-45 drink grapefruit along with seltzer water containing quinine, t-30 take a lot of tagamet, plus coricidin hbp cough/cold, t-25 a dangerously high amount of naproxen, then tums like 10 mins before taking the pills.

I’m here to tell you with absolute certainty that you DO NOT need to wait or to take all those steps! Have a cup (or several gulps) of grapefruit juice to begin with, then take your medication with the grapefruit juice, take a couple extra gulps for good measure afterward, and then use whatever chaser you prefer… For me it’s usually just cola to get the taste out. It will turn a 15 mg oxycodone hcl IR tablet into extended release, and you will feel it more strongly. It definitely lasts much longer than 6 hours. It will make an extended release last longer. If that’s all I’ve had, I usually won’t start early withdrawals for at least 24 hours (like sneezing five times in a row, or watery eyes, or excessive yawning)

If you are a lightweight, definitely be extremely cautious. Because if you don’t know your limits, you very well could overdose and I don’t ever want to be responsible for somebody losing their life!! in this day and age I would never trust anything off the street, and I sincerely hope you all stay safe.

If you plan to try “my way” aka easy, be EXTREMELY conservative until you can figure out what works well for you without overdoing it. What works for me would probably kill a lot of people, as we all know each of us is different and our tolerances are as well. If you are not already opioid tolerant, I would advise against this! I imagine if my SO were to take it with even 5mg percocet, he’d be on a different planet! He doesn’t touch pain meds.

Maybe taking tums beforehand might help, but I just want to clear up that you don’t need to take grapefruit juice 45 minutes or 40 or 30 minutes before hand. Drink it with your meds and it will potentiate them… Pretty much all pain meds that are opiates/opioids, and it works very well for benzodiazepines too.

Apparently it ALSO can affect tizanidine (zanaflex) and probably other muscle relaxers. That was actually frightening for me… The first time I did it I couldn’t even stand. I sometimes take a muscle relaxer to go to sleep. It was late at night and just walking from my bed into my bathroom, I fell twice, once almost knocking myself out by falling into the toilet. My husband had to carry me back to bed. So be careful!

When it comes to benzos, it definitely makes Klonopin last longer and Xanax. It probably does for Valium as well, but for some reason, I do not get any effect by Valium. I’ve come to believe that my pharmacy is only giving placebos of it. When I bite into the pill, it has no bitter taste the way Xanax or Klonopin does. The diazepam my big-name pharmacy dispenses has no taste. With xanax it makes it last at least 4 to 6 hours, when taken without grapefruit it usually lasts me only 2 to 3.

I hope this helps someone! As I stated earlier, please be careful! Know your own limits.

Does grapefruit juice just make oxy and xanax last longer or does it make the effects more intense? I was thinking of trying this tonight and if it works, maybe use it to lower the amount of alpraz and oxy i am using, but honestly would like to use it to get a lil extra “up there” if possible, just want to be safe. usually take 1.25 mg Alpraz 2-2.5 hours before taking my oxy in the morning and at night, but for my midday dose of oxy, i dont take anymore xanax. I take oxy 40mg x 3 usually but i just lowered to 35mg x 3 and trying to go down to about 25mg x 3 if possible. Also trying to lower my Alpraz dose to 1-1.1mg x 2. Let me know what you think! Also kinda worried about this being safe but it seems like it just makes it longer which im not concerned about. More concerned about the oxy levels in my blood getting too high all at once.

I have this same question. I want to make my Oxycodone last longer, not make the effects stronger. Or if it does make it stronger, I will use less Oxy

I find Xanax bitter, but not klonopin. Klonopin has that almost minty, slightly numbing taste to it. I mean I guess you could say it's bitter. Not that I'm being petty with semantics here, mostly bored & just conversing. :P

But yes, grapefruit juice can inhibit the enzymes needed to break down many drugs. It won't work with everything though, depending on how it's metabolized.

I've always found it variable. Some times it'll work nicely, other times I wouldn't notice much.

You can also just take cimetidine tablets, as it also inhibits those same enzymes, if you're not a grapefruit kind of person. But long term cimetidine use has been linked to gyno problems for men (man boobs), so I wouldn't take it long term. But once in awhile should be fine.

Anyway, informative post! Welcome to Bluelight!

Both some times. It slows metabolism of the drug, so you end up with more of the drug in your blood & it stays there longer.

So essentially you're getting both. But after that first initial use, your tolerance may go up & then the only benefit will be making your dose last a little longer in duration, while the potentiation effects disappear. It's also variable depending on the person.

When I've used it for things like tramadol, hydrocodone, buprenorphine, clonazepam, etc..I notice an increase in effect (sometimes only slightly) & and a slightly extended duration. Other times I don't notice anything at all. So your experiences can vary a bit. It all comes down to individual metabolism, body chemistry & even what a person might've eaten or done that day.

If your worries are about being safe, I would definitely proceed with caution, because the slowing down of the metabolism & clearing of the drug is going to cause it to linger around in your blood levels longer. While you may not be in any danger by having some extra oxycodone in your blood, you will be increasing your tolerance as you do.

You might be able to do this though, with just little bits of grapefruit juice, for the extended duration. You can also use Tagamet (cimetidine), which is an antacid drug that basically does the same thing that the grapefruit juice is doing, which is inhibiting the CYP3A4 enzymes. While grapefruit juice mostly inhibits the aforementioned enzyme, Tagament also inhibits CYP2D6, CYP1A2, CYP2C19 as well. I don't know your individual body chemistry, so I can't tell you what to do, but I've potentiated using grapefruit juice safely many times. Although there is always going to be that slight risk there, so that choice is ultimately up to the person.

Oxycodone is mostly metabolized by CYP34A, so grapefruit juice would slow down it's metabolism. It's also metabolized by CYP2D6 into oxymorphone, but only a little.
