Hey guys, I have read countless reports on the potentiation of Opiates using Grapefruit.

My only question is, say I eat a grapefruit 48 hours before my dose, would it still potentiate the opiate? What is the maximum time that the grapefruit inhibits the liver enzymes? Like can I eat it at least the day before?

I just want to know, because I may arouse suspicion from live ins, if they notice me eating grapefruit around the similiar times that "I do my own thing". They would have read it on their medication somewhere about not eating grapefruit, they have lots of meds with stickers on them, and they are the types that read and follow procedures (as we all should be :)).

Thanks in advance.

I can't say for sure but I always thought that the grapefruit or grapefruit juice had to be consumed about 30mins to an hour before taking your opiates or benzos.
That is just what I have read numerous times in different places but someone else may have more informed information for you.

I didn't think that GFJ had an effect on opiates, but it works well for things under the CYP2D6 group. Careful though with how much you potentiate an opiate. If you already have a slow metabolism then it could put you into OD territory.

Anyway... GFJ lasts up to 24 hours, but it's best taken within 4-6 hours of your dose.

Keep in mind that it affects everyone differently. For some people it will potentiate a session, for others it will do nothing, and still yet for others it will inhibit. It depends on the genetics of you CYP450 group.

the potentiation only lasts for 2-4 hours. so no, just eating a grapefruit 2 days in advance will not potentiate your dose.

tagamet (cimitidine) is much more reliable, potent, and all around better at inhibiting livver enzymes thus potentiating most opiates and benzos.

where do you guys get WGFJ? Ive only ever bought it once but I can never seem to find even grapefruit juice at most places. Northeast US that is. Ive been looking for Ocean Spray or Welchs they must have WGFJ right?

simply greatfruit juice is the best IME. go buy some tagamet instead, go buy some tagamet instead, go buy some tagamet instead. you can find tagament in grocery stores, pharmacies, walgreens, rite-aid, CVS, ect..

I've heard that white grapefruit from concentrate is actually better for some reason. Just make sure it is made from real fruit and not just sugar water.

wondering, if you had a bad liver, per say, would potentiating an opiate with a liver enzyme inhibitor would do more damage to your liver or less?

I don't know about what it does to your liver but I love the stuff and have been drinking it for 10 years (before I got a painful disease) I still drink it and am on opiates now I do find If I drink it before I take my meds it seems liker the opiates are a bit stronger not much but I do get a bit more relief. weird I think it's really individual. and since lately I can't really drink at all I am pretty pissed off, Only luke warm things occasional) :(

I have always potentiated with anta-acids and on occasions, DXM. I have used GFJ before, found it some what useful. Might have to eat in the morning or something and see how it goes. I was hoping it would last for more than a day.
