Grapefruit Juice FAQ

vicodin (hydrocodone) is mostly metabolized by cyp2d6, on which grapefruit jucie hasnt been show to cause much inhibition.

thanks for pointing that out, i somehow mixed it up with methadone. however its worth noting, for some reason some people do report a potentiating effect between gfj and hydrocodone, even if its not scientifically justified. maybe its placebo but hey, whatever works... imo its still worth a shot if theres a chance it might work, be it placebo or otherwise.

however, i have a question about methadone and gfj. i know methadone has a unique property of being stored in the body and being released much after ingestion. i'd like to know, does gfj still have a potentiating effect if, for example, the methadone was taken orally 12 hours ago BUT we know for a fact that it is still in the process of being released in the body? please let me know if i need to rephrase that question if it's difficult to understand.

thanks.

After much experimenting i have gotten the best result when using pure grapefuite juice before, while taking, and after taking oxycodone. With the same controls i have gotten a much larger effect from drinking GJ 20min before, while taking pills, and followine ingestion (10 oz each interval). Its odd the drugs i found most effected by the juice is oxycodone, xanax, and ativan.

I'm not sure where methadone is stored, but most of grapefruit juice's effect is on the intestine, though there may be some effect on the liver, especially if large amounts of juice are consumed.

I cross posted this in ADD and Bilzor pointed out there is some research showing that some of the chemicals in the juice do cause inhibition of cyp2d6, though it's not as potent as the effect on 3a4 or even 1a2. There isn't much literature on this effect actually happening in humans, but there is some chance of potentiation. Perhaps there's some interaction with the APAP in vicodin as well.

Actually, if you would, Negrogesic, keep this open long enough (tomorrow after school would be perfect), because in the latest information that I'm aware of, it is chock full of "CYP" enzymatic do's and don'ts related to the interactions between MANY compounds and MANY substrates...in fact, it's the most comprehensive list that I've ever seen, even better than many of the articles that I saw while attending pharmacy school.
I'll have to post it tomorrow though, due to the fact that it's finals time, and I have a shitload of classes tomorrow. But, I could probably get it up there by tomorrow afternoon. Thanks. I'll probably either attach the whole damn article (it's pretty lengthy), or I'll just highlight some of the more important "recreational" ones that we here at OD are particularly interested in.
Good night, and see you guys/gals tomorrow... ;)

Seriously? I've always steered clear of grapefruit juice because I've heard it does the opposite. I take codeine daily, and try to steer clear of anything citric.

I just want clarification. I read the post. I always thought it inhibited CYP 2D6 to a large degree.

And what is Tagament? I hear about it all the time. Is it a vitamin?

Thanks :)

Nevermind, I looked into it

I did. Thanks for the tremendous help you were.

Now, are you referring to the prescription, or OTC version of the pill. That actually would be helpful.

i UTFSE and someone suggested taking 600 mg of tagamet, along with some antacid like tums or malox, waiting 45 minutes, and then taking a hydrocodone and the effects would be potentiated. my questin:

if i crush up the hydrocodone and administer it rectally, will i still get the potentiating effects? taking hydro's rectally in itself makes the high stronger so in combination with the tagamet i'd like to see if it would be even better. i'd appreciate a quick response because I just took the tagamet and now i'm waiting the 45 minutes before i take the hydro and i want to know if i should just eat it or take the time to crush it up and make it into a liquid solution to take rectally.

Im not knowledgeable on this matter but I took note of DXM being mentioned. If I were to drink the juice, would that mean I would need less mg/kg to reach the third plateau, for example, than usual? From what ive gathered it sounds like its person to person, but i guess what Im asking is: does the juice increase the effects, or lower the amount needed to reach a level I want.

^Aren't both situations essentially the same? If, for instance, 200mg produces the effects of a 300mg trip, it has indeed lowered the amount needed, but it does this by increasing the effects.

I have a question fuckers

I have given the ol Cimetidine enhancement treatment with alprazolam. It made the high so much shittier. It lasted longer but the effects were very dull and never peaked as alprazolam generally does. It defeated the entire purpose of the effects of alprazolam.

Now how about grapefruit juice? Would I expect the same thing? Or would this route actually potentiate alprazolam and just make the duration longer? I really hate wasting my shit

ahahaha, crap, good point.

or is it just a try it yourself and find out dealie

GFJ is the only way to do it I find. Intensity is what I experience with alprazolam and GFJ, but there's a definite increase in sedation towards the end. But hell, what is wrong with a nice nap after feeling fine for a while?;)

i agree with tagamet with benzos in general. Makes it last longer, but so boring almost like im not high.
