West Bloomfield Township— Police today released audio of the 911 call, played in court Monday, of Jonathan Hoffman seeking help after suffering gunshot wounds at his grandmother's condominium in West Bloomfield Township.

His grandmother, 74-year-old Sandra Layne, was bound over to face trial on a charge of open murder Monday in his death.

Hoffman, 17, is heard pleading with emergency operators to hurry.

"My grandma shot me," he says. "I'm gonna die. Help."

Layne sobbed Monday as she heard her grandson's words replayed in court.

I edited the thread title from "Grandma Shoots Son for Smoking Synthetic Marijuana" to "Grandma Shoots Son Who Smoked Synthetic Cannabinoid".

From the very limited information in the article, it appears the shooting was sparked by him attempting to forcibly take her car.

I wonder what really happened here. The kid sounds like a real motherfucker.
 
he's 17. 17 year olds can be dicks sometimes.

he failed her drug test and she came after him. which is disturbing.

in order to attempt to help his health (help him get off bath salts), she inflicted worse pain and damage than any other kind of crime (riddling him with bullets) and (i don't know whether this was intentional) ended his life.

recreational drugs often cause psychotic reactions in people who have never taken them.

journalists and law enforcement agencies exaggerating bath salts and synth cannabinoids in the media are partly responsible for this death... people with mental impairment (eg the elderly) are going to listen to the bullshit propaganda and do things like this...

i think it's about time we make a collective-mental-disorder diagnosis on mass media, law enforcement, the court system, the prison industrial complex, congress, and the healthcare system. humans are in a state of hysteria over the fact that some people get high sometimes, and carry out unjust actions in a bizarre gigantic macro-global movement of jealousy and rage. this collective mental illness extends to our legislation and global politics and it threatens the very survival of our species, especially the most gentle among us. it is ironically comorbid with alcoholism (the most violent molecule) and religiosity.

yeah after listening to the tape, I take that back. The kid was already shot in the chest. Then, 3 minutes later, she shoots him in the stomach. I don't know what initially brought about the shot in the chest, and maybe that was justifiable, but his weakened state allowed her to retreat until help arrived.

People should be required to retreat if they can retreat. Unless they think the wounded person will come back for revenge once they recover.
 
Theres some really, really angry people on the comments section of that article. Apparently a gunshot to the chest isn't enough to subdue someone and they could quite easily turn around and attack.

Heres me thinking a bullet to the chest would have me down for the count - even if it missed every vital organ I still wouldn't be up for a fight. AND IM ONE MEAN MOFUCKER!
