Granddad's dope den: 78-year-old collapses in the dock after being jailed for turning rented home into a cannabis farm

A grandfather who allowed a gang of Chinese drug dealers to set up a cannabis farm in his rented home has been jailed.

Robert Parkin collapsed in the dock as his 12 month sentence was read out and had to be taken away by ambulance after being chained to a wheelchair.

The 78-year-old told the Newcastle Crown Court he was approached by the gang in a casino who offered to help him clear his debts if he rented them a property in his name.

Parkin, of Washington, agreed to lease the five bedroom property in Houghton-le-Spring, Tyne and Wear, County Durham, on behalf of a Chinese criminal known only as Mr Lee - and paid the £1,350 monthly rent from the cash he received from the gang.

Mr Lee paid him cash for his involvement.

lol yea he was just gonna roll out i guess...

thats kinda messed up they coulda gave him probation or house arrest i mean 78 and im sure he was no danger to nobody and he didnt commit a violent crime and it almost sounds like he was pretty much forcced into it by a gang ... There have been cases where with certain circumstances a murderer gets a suspended sentence (probation) and serves no time.

He had to do what he had to to survive and its stupid as hell that he's going to go away for a year.
How do they expect a 78 year old to do well in jail?

^ Yea and what if he was? What if he popped up outta the wheelchair with some fist'o'fury bullshit like your Kung-Fu Jesus avatar! They took every precaution, every unnecessary precaution!

The judges in Newcastle crown court are notorious dickheads when it comes to shit like this. Fuck them, and Double-Fuck Northumbria police, who turned their noses up last week at a family friends house being turned into a grow-op. They lost any and all interest when they realised that the plants had been cleared the night before.

Cunts.

Also, just what would have happened if he'd keeled over and died then and there? Would there be any manslaughter charges brought against the jury or the judge for that matter? No. Makes me fucking sick.

hopefully he is a kung fu master
my attention-wandering brain has an interesting ethical question... given that this is definitely not justice and the man deserves to be let free, and let's assume he really is a kung fu master capable of killing each armed person in the court room; is this justifiable murder?

they're "just doing their jobs" and are people too. so who is the real enemy?

So were the Nazis.

I hear your argument though I mean, the root of the problem here is the way the laws. The cops think they're right because of all the bullshit they're hand fed about how drugs are so evil and that they're doing "God's Work" by taking them off the streets. Even the cops though seem to be coming around thanks to the spread of information and more understanding about the real truth behind drugs. I think we had that convo in another thread Qwe about how the tides seem to be turning in popular thinking towards drugs due to the wealth of exposure they're getting. You were right too, the more exposure and the more knowledge that the public has about drugs the better off we all are.

Back on topic, unfortunately the way things are right now this guy technically broke the law, it doesn't mean he should have his antiquated ass chained to a wheelchair, but that's just the way it is. I feel so bad for the guy man but he's not exactly without blame, he did this to profit, and now has to pay the consequences. I am not saying it's right, but it's the way things are.
