Grainy Vision/ Visual Snow

Alright, basically my vision is getting grainy as fuck. Grainy as fuck! Especially at night, and for some reason expeically in my house my vision is completely covered by scintillating flashing green and purple dots, and more or less, lots and lots of grains. I can still see everything else...unless its really dark...but the grains exist always.

Its not that noticeable during the day and during the day outside it is virtually absent, but at night it is quite discontenting, and especially towards the evening. My eyesite isnt that great anyway, but the grains sometimes really kill it. At night, lights and what not smudge into long purple and green tracers through these grains and remain as green or purple floaters in my vision for minutes after looking at a light. It is sort of hard to describe. I can still drive absolutely fine at night and see where I am going, but these grains are still there.

And I dont know why, but even during the day the grainy vision is far more prominent when I am inside. They are visible in the daytime sky, but not even as much as when I look around a room inside while it its perfectly lit.

I think it has a lot to do with smoking marijuana. When I smoke marijuana these sorts of visual things become far more prominent and exist as this layer of imagry covering my whole field of vision in these gross little pixelleated grains, like the sharp cut shapes on a very old 2d video game. Psychedelics on the other hand produce visuals that can more be described as patterns within things, and organic morphings of objects. These visuals are beautiful. The fucking pixellated grains are not! It would be like looking at a beautiful oil painting through mesh wire directly infront of your face. Thats how these visual grains mar my vision. Everything looks like it is overlayed with an old 2d itari video game screen with static.

Do any of you guys experience this and what have you found helps get rid of it?

Psychedelics are best, indeed, but sometimes they fuck you up in this manner.

Only time can cure. Keyword: can.

But do you think it is the psychedelics? It seems to me it might be the marijuana, because the only time the grainy vision is amplified is when I smoke marijuana. Psychedelics don't amplify it, if anything they decrease it.

Maybe it is just your eyesight? usually eyesight degrades with age. There are different factors with eyesight also like retina curve and a few other things that can cause distortion. I used to see a lot of grain at night and I got Lasik with retina correction a couple of years ago and all the grain disappeared; now I see clear at night. One thing I noticed though is I see a lot less visuals on psychedelics now, I think a lot of visuals might come from distortion. Try a eye exam.

auras at night come from an uneven retina, I used to get those also.

I get like that sometimes, particularly with weed. . the flashing grainy vision... its really annoying not being able to see clearly

One of the many symptoms of HPPD

Any psychedelic (including marijuana) can lead to HPPD.

I went on a bit of a binge (42 Eckies) and on the comedown I did a lot of buckets (gravity bongs) and freaked out - ended in the hospital. I've had HPPD ever since (been 14months now)

Consists of
  • Static Vision
  • Walls Breathing
  • Objects getting longer/shorter - bigger/smaller
  • Snow in light beams
  • aural hallucinations
  • Delirium when waking up
  • Swirling Patterns on Walls
  • Anxiety

I get a lot of static the night or two after a psychedelic experience or after smoking a bowl, but it is not constant.

I've had this for as long as I remember.. Long before ever trying drugs. But I have noticed that over time, the 'random' static has started to form more complex fractal patterns. Its also a lot worse when I first get up, and right before I sleep. Marijuana increases the intensity, and the basis for a lot of the hallucinations I see on psychedelics is this visual snow turning into large complex geometric shapes that overlay my entire visual field. It's also a lot 'brighter' when I close my eyes, instead of seeing black, its more or less a fairly bright field of static..

I've become almost prone to the effects, but its still a little annoying. It makes navigating dark places a little hard because its dark, and hard to see, but on top of that is a bright static that is like a glare on the dark backdrop.

Maybe during/ day after a trip the HPPD will be gone or lessened, but afterwards things like MJ will pronounce it more. I don't believe MJ can cause HPPD by itself.

I guess it's just something you get used to.. I know when I first noticed the static and tracers/negative after-images and colours not being one colour it kind of weirded me out... But now I don't even notice it anymore.
Seeing at night is a bitch though my mother is also nightblind, so I can't tell if that's from psychs or not.

I get visual static/snow a lot of the time when I smoke pot. Especially outdoors at night. Other friends have mentioned this as well.

How often do you smoke pot or do psychedelics? If you answer "daily" to the former and/or "frequently" to the latter... take a few months off and see?

I had similar symptoms to what you're describing after a period of prolonged ecstasy/speed/mushrooms/lsd use. This was when I was in my early 20s. I now believe I had a case of HPPD, though I was diagnosed with depression at the time as I never voiced my visual concerns. The symptoms completely subsided once I was put on an SSRI, and even though I do not use SSRIs or any other pharmaceutical anti-depressants any more, I am free from such problems now. My vision went back to quite normal pretty quickly (say, one month) after going on an SSRI, and it has remained so for the last 10 years.

I wouldn't recommend SSRIs to anyone for any condition since in my case they made a lot of things worse for me in the long run, but I feel that they were responsible for eliminating my HPPD. It was fluoxetine, btw. And I can assure you I was seeing some very strange things and couldn't look at the world normally any more.

And yes, weed always made it worse.

^^^Interesting- SSRI's have increased visual distortion in my percveption, though mainly in the form of green liquid blobs, purple and pink "facelike" shapes and small 'target' shaped spheres that descend from the upper right of my visual field to the low left, only to appear with no timelapse, again in the upper right. Of course, this could be a result of too much DMT, but it has increased as my zoloft dose has been bumped up. Ice/meth certainly increases 'grainy' textured vision..... weed brightens my vision, but I'm accustomed to my blobs so its entertaining- though I have found it to very distressing in the past.

yep, sometimes I think it's all about acceptance. makes it a lot less bad and one hardly notices any more if it all.

Yeah, Its not something that terrible. My eyesight is just not extremely acute anyway so at night it is hard to see anything with great resolution. Running through a dark forest at night might be a little difficult.

It's not wholly awful though, I mean sometimes it does result in interesting visualizations upon which you may spend your time looking, but at the same time I would like to be able to run through a dark forest at night if I ever need to.

I have HPPD and I am only 17. The graininess managable all the time (including night) but it does get annoying. I find that while I am on MDMA it seems to clear up. Occasionally when I get up sometimes from lying on my bed I cannot see a single thing for around 10 seconds because of these blue and green blocks, which block all my vision. I remember getting up and my friend was right in front of me but I couldnt make eye contact because I couldn't see his head, only part of his t-shirt was visible. Also if I concentrate on an object such as a college the shapes will shrink and grow in size! It is kind of fun though especially with food like coleslaw.

Also I can get CEV's without any psychedelics (abit grainy but definetly CEV's mostly of eyes and patterns) And OEV from meditation.

I experience many of the effects of HPPD but only when I am tired, I havent used a vast amount of psychedelics but I these symtoms have been around since I first took mushrooms.

I don't experience aural hallucinations or patterning on walls but I have all of the other symptoms, until now I didn't even realise the delerium upon waking up was a symptom, I thought everyone just got it.
