I have 6 essays to write each of them are worth 10% of my final grade. And then I have two literature exams to pass and each of those are worth 20% of my final grade. (I'm not worried about the literature shit right now, because those are later on)

These are the topics that have to be written about for the essays:

1 - Capital Punishment/Death Penalty
2 - The advantages and disadvantages of legalizing prostitution
3 - Child Abuse
4 - Physical Depedence/Addicition
5 - Censorship
6 - The possible effects of videogames or violent toys on children

I have a few ideas about what I can write for some of them, but others I am completely lost about where to even start.

Capital Punishment/Death Penalty is pretty much crazy, and I have no clue what to write about, because I am pretty much against it, but most of the people that I've talked to say that it's a good idea.

The prostitution one has me COMPLETELY lost. I see only disadvantages with that shit.

For Child Abuse, I don't think people should be hitting there kids and shit, but then a lot of parents think that it's okay.

The last two, are alright, but there's still a lot to cover.

This is complete stress, and a pain in the ass, and if I want to get this credit, I have to pass. And I want to pass English.

This teacher is bugshit crazy. I mean how much of a NO LIFE can one have to go out and find 6 different topics for a class of twenty students. This is ridiculous. Oh, and they have to be like 8-10+ pages long...but no more than like 10 000 words. FML :!

But any ideas on any of the subjects would be GREATLY appreciated.

Thanks,

Cap'n Jay

EDIT: I'm REALLY stuck on this shit. >_> I've been trying to work on it for a while...and it's not exactly working?

Probably should have started on these when they were first assigned. : / That's way too much paper-writing to be doing at the last minute. That's also a shit ton of writing to be doing in high school, but if you had the whole semester to be working on it, I guess its a bit more reasonable. It will definitely have you a lot more prepared for college writing than the average high school student.

We can offer more suggestions if you post or paraphrase the guidelines for these papers. Are you supposed to analyze both sides of these issues and post the pros and cons? (the pros of child abuse?) Or is it a persuasive paper where you pick a side and argue that side while picking apart the other side? Or do you pretty much pick the way you want to approach each topic?

Not exactly sure what you're asking....but if it was me, I would write the essays on the following:

1 - Capital Punishment/Death Penalty
Is the death penalty fair to have? vs. overcrowded prisons

2 - The advantages and disadvantages of legalizing prostitution
Govt. can't say "you can't have sex for money" vs. it's unethical(i think thats the word im looking for.).

3 - Child Abuse
it's fucked up vs. teaches children consequences/how to deal with stuff later on in life(i'd argue the first one though.)

4 - Physical Depedence/Addicition
of? drugs? i don't see much to argue here =/

5 - Censorship
protects people vs. "do you have the right to censor what i do?"

6 - The possible effects of videogames or violent toys on children
teach children violence is not okay, but in video-games it is because it's fun. vs. children who play violent games will more likely to be criminals later on in life.

I'll post what she said:

NSFW:
Grade 11 AP English Essays

6 Essays Each Weighing 60% of your final grade
2 Literature Exams Weighing 40% of your final grade

The essay structure and plan are all up to you, this is your choice. The topics have been provided for you.

Criteria:
Must be between 8-10+ pages.
No more than 10000 words, this is too long and will not be accepted.

That is all.
To me, it seems like a take what we've been teaching you for the past two years and turn it into something brilliant.
If this is her idea of "fun" she needs to take whatever stick is up her ass OUT.

After the Criteria, she just went on about deadlines and shit. I just took that out.

Tell you what. You write my upcoming Chemistry exam, and I'll write all 6 of your papers over one weekend.

I'll even guarantee an "A" on every one.

haha. I could attempt to write your chemistry exam. I'm not the best at chemistry but I could try. :)

what I posted before sounded kinda reallllllly bad. But I don't think it's that bad anymore.

The title page counts as 1 page and the Bibliography counts as 1 page...so that's basically 6-8 pages..and it has to be double spaced...so that's only about 3 real pages long.

Meh, it's not that bad...could be worse...

Can u write anything u want on the subjects or do they have to be of certain type..like compare contrast, opinion or something like that.

I'll try helping u, just need to know from what perspective to think of the topic.

At least give as an idea of what she might see as the best approach. She must have taught u something.

I'd start by writing an outline and a thesis paragraph for each one. It always makes things easier for me as from those two things finishing off the paper is easy.

U then need to do research to support ur thesis.

1 - Capital Punishment/Death Penalty
2 - The advantages and disadvantages of legalizing prostitution

3 - Child Abuse
Write a thesis statement about the fact that Child Abuse has mostly negative impacts on children. There recently have been some research done that stated that children who were hit had lower IQ's than children who were not. The research wasn't 100% solid IMO but u can use that to support ur thesis statement.

There really are no pros for child abuse. All the info u will find will support ur thesis that child abuse is bad and should not be done. Then u can finish off with something that says, "our sociey knows well that child abuse is not good for children, then why is the abuse continuing? why r there people needing to abuse innocent children? " or something like that. End the paper with a good thought for the reader, so that they will feel like ur paper made them learn something, that it was not boring, that it made them wonder more about the subject.

I won't do ur research for u as that is a lot of work. Unless u pay me of course, then I can write u all the papers with an A guaranteed. Read up on the topics and with a general idea of what u want to write about u should have no problems doing at least a paper a day.

4 - Physical Depedence/Addicition
5 - Censorship
6 - The possible effects of videogames or violent toys on children

Are we talking about child abuse or corporal punishment? I would think that constrasting those is a far more interesting writing a paper on the obvious negative consequences of abuse.

Yeah I find the suggestions about writing the pros and cons of child abuse to be a little ridiculous. If you even use the word abuse you are working under the assumption that it is wrong. Cyc's idea is a good one - another approach could be to talk about child abuse, not in a pros/cons sort of way, but discuss the damage child abuse causes, or the difficulty in catching abusers or proving that abuse occurred. Or the flipside, how an accusation of child abuse, even if unfounded, can be devastating to a family and can separate parents from their children for a long time while the accusation is investigated.

Legalization of prostitution, you can discuss the effects this has had in the parts of Nevada where it is legal, or in other countries where it is legal (and regulated). Or you could compare countries with good regulation of the sex industry versus countries that don't (human sex trafficking Eastern European/Southeast Asia-type situations).

Capital punishment and the death penalty should be pretty easy to talk about, no matter which direction you come at it from.

Possible effects of violent video games and toys...blech. I'm just glad it isn't me that has to write about that junk.

Hardly anyone has mentioned 5 & 6...they're ambiguous, but they also give you a great deal of leg-room, especially if you throw some solid references in there (that goes double for scholarly articles or monographs). The censorship one in particularly has a potentially rich haul in legal controversies and precedents.

Why not just do an expository essay for each of them. Instead of having to argue a side you can just research each one a write a history type paper for each of the concepts, I think that would be far easier.

What fucking High School do you go to? I didn't have to write this much shit for grade 12 English or college freshman English. Sounds like your curriculum is better suited for a college-level psychology class.

This isn't an impossible task by any means, and could be done relatively easily, but it seems a bit odd for 11th grade English

^ It seems like a way for the teacher to get out of actually lecturing.
