Governor Christie urged to allow children to use marijuana

I have nothing against Marijuana. I just don't think it should be administered to children... under any circumstance!

What a whimsical and capricious belief!
It's like saying "children should never eat red food".
We give children addictive stimulants, and you are fine with that, but not cannabis, not even to save a child from severe suffering?
Sounds like the drug war propaganda has influenced your powers of clear thinking.

Okay I wanna clear things up.

Hypothetically speaking... Let's say there was a medication and this medication was just CBD(the supposed Cannabidiol that treats the illness correct?), a pure extraction no THC whats so ever. Then I would have no problem with this being prescribed to children. Because from what I understand it's not psychoactive.

Do they have a medication like this? Just CBD with no THC?

However, the article isn't about a pure CBD extraction. It's about getting laws passed to legalize medical marijuana in plant form for kids.

Now it would be an entirely different story if the parents were asking the Governor to fund some scientific research into making a pure CBD extraction. I'd be all for that!

Wooo hooo!

But you guys are right maybe I should ease up on my view of Cannabis. I've spent the last 2 hours researching Darvet syndrome and it is pretty bad. From what I've read Cannabis does seem like the safer alternative then the medication that they prescribe for the illness(mainly benzos). I just have worries on what THC might do to a child's brain... that's all. It's like I guess Marijuana would be the lesser of the 2 evils.

Actually NO, I'm not fine with that, I hate the fact that children are prescribed drugs! I just thought that adding Cannabis to the mix of amphetamines and SSRIs would make the situation even worse. And whats this "WE" all about. I would never give my child addictive stimulants.

I think you guys just misunderstood where I was coming from. It's bad enough children are pumped full of shit already, vaccines, GMOs, "prescription drugs", I just thought that, Oh great, Now Doctors have one more drug to get children hooked on.

That's all.

^ I appreciate the fact that your mind is open, GodandLove, and that you are willing to change your beliefs based on your knowledge.
Like you, I am also NOT fine with giving children speed. But I recognize that there might be some special circumstances where it is preferable to the alternative.

They do make products that are pure CBD, without any THC (or, possibly, just with very, very little THC?).
You are standing on firm ground in worrying about what THC might do to a child's brain - it is indeed very troubling.
But it might be better than the alternative...

Are you against giving all psychoactives to children?
How about caffeine? No chocolate for your kids?
Sugar?

I try to raise my kids with as few nasties as possible, but I do let them eat chocolate sometimes.
So, I can't claim that I don't give them psychoactives at all.
However, I would never let them use weed.... unless, God forbid, they had Dravet or something that terrible.

Definitely not caffeine. But the occasional Chocolate, no problem. Well it would be impossible to cut Carbohydrates out their diet. But No soda, if that's what you mean.

But the differences of these psychoactive substances and cannabis vary immensely.

1 mg per 1 bar (7 grams) is not "full of caffeine". LOL I see what you're trying to do though. . =D

^ My sources give a figure that is about double what you say: 12 mg per 28 grams.
But I am glad that you see my point.
It is very, very hard to draw a firm line between foods and drugs.
So we must keep our minds open, and consider the exact benefits and drawbacks in each situation.
