Got codeine pills with weird ingredient: Sulfogaiacol - What to do?

Guys,

I acquired codeine pills that instead of paracetamol contain the following:

25mgs codeine camphosulfonate + 100mgs Sulfogaiacol + 20mgs Grindelia soft extract. The 25mgs of codeine = 15 mgs of codeine base according to the ingredient list.

Two things:

1) I have only used codeine phosphate in the past. How is codeine phosphate related to codeine camphosulfonate or codeine base? It's the first time I find such weird codeine chemical, normally it's phosphate. For all intents, shall I use 15mgs or 25mgs as my marker for the dose?

2) I am worried about Sulfogaiacol. Apparently it is an expectorant (maybe like pseudoephedrine or guaifenesin?), what would be the highest dose I would get away with? I need about 160mgs of codeine to feel it so I'm looking to about 8 to 12 pills to be ingested (about a gram of Sulfogaiacol). Anybody have more details about this drug? Drugs.com nor Wikipedia talk about what is an OD dose. Quick forum search yields unanswered questions.

Thanks a lot.

That is indeed a strange ingredient. Pseudoephedrine isn't an expectorant, its a decongestant. Guaf is a nasty ingredient and can cause extreme nausea in high doses.

I've never heard of Sulfogaiacol before - The drugs.com entry for it shows that its an expectorant but not much else. Here's an older BL thread about it but there doesn't seem to be much info on it there either.

I'm going to see if anybody else has any experiences with this...I'm sort of at a loss when it comes to all these different codeine preparations. In regards to the codeine camphosulfonate vs. codeine sulfate (codeine sulphate) just do the conversion for the doses. Codeine camphosulfonate is just another salt of codeine (there are dozens of different codeine salts, believe it or not) as far as I know.

If you don't mind me asking, which country did you acquire this preparation in? I've never seen it before. I was able to find this entry at the Lebanon National Drug Index website.

Hi. What you've got is probably Neo Codion (I could be wrong, but I guess I'm not). I've taken this medication for a long time.

Codeine camphosulfonate is just a codeine salt like the others. It won't be more dangerous, anyway.

As for sulfogaiacol, short term use isn't dangerous. There's no acute intoxication, at least not at the doses we're talking about. You can take 160mg, you'll feel fine. Be safe.

Thank you. It was purchased in France.

Shall I then use the 25mgs of the camphosulfonate to equate 25mgs of codeine sulfate too? I have experience with the 30mgs only-codeine pills and found 6 to be a good spot (180mgs).

Thank you too.

I'm currently taking a medication which increases my liver enzymes and has the risk of causing internal bleeding, which is why I procured this paracetamol free preparation. Do you think sulfogaiacol at a 1 gram dose (taken in a single dose) would pose problems with increased blood pressure or increased liver functioning?

not to revive an old ass thread, but i bought neo-codions as well and i really want to know if theres any type of extraction i could use

doesn't work with cold water extraction, I would have obviously done that first. yeah thanks
