Hmm, I don't think I can agree with you.
As far as so-called "national security" goes, our country keeps getting worse and less free. Now, a short trip to the airport will result in having your information put into a National Database. These very words I'm typing are being seen by the FBI, as they scan all the webpages everyone at my school visits. If you show up at an anti-war protest, chances are the Feds will be paying you a visit to ascertain if you are a terrorist threat or not.
You call this free?

finally, Walters said nothing about medical marijuana, simply that the Feds should help REHAB programs for youth ... how you thought this pertained to medical marijuana, I have no clue, but rest assured that he will keep initiating invasions on the State of California.

Concerning the guardian, it is at least one of the more liberal newspapers over here and even though the article was fairly misinformed, articles concerning illicit/licit leisure narcotics in other British newspapers almost always leave me spitting blood.
 
Sucks that an article like this gets published... although its not a big secret that these compounds exist, I'm sure the DEA is on it like flys on shit.

dude It ain't a big secret mabeye it is just some gov't scandal that they know what the side affects are. We know they are research Chemicals and they fuck us up. But they are "research" chemicals for a reason. There is still stuff to research about them. Who knows what the future side effects are. We are just the gov't guneia pigs. The gov't may know the outcome. It may be a bad outcome. Who knows. I think the gov't does though.

I got linked to the Guardian article through a listserv earlier in the week. Had to do an internet search to find out more. Basically, I believe that the article is a storm in a teacup. You won't ever have a big market for DMT, 5MeO-DMT etc 'coz they're just too powerful. By coincidence I'm reading a great book - "Synthetic Panics: the symbolic politics of designer drugs" (Philip Jenkins 1999 NYUP) - this guy has all this shit already covered - another tedious media beat-up that will be forgotten soon enuff. Then the next thing happens and all the same stuff gets trotted out about it. btw - reading the article made me want to try ALL of them ;-)
