Brazil’s favelas are considered extremely dangerous, making them one of the world’s most deadly places to grow up. As a result of poverty and a lack of government and police control, many young men here resort to drug dealing and gang crime under the control of the drug cartels.

In other neighbourhoods, heavily armed criminal militia groups control day-to-day life with an iron grip, extorting residents – fail to pay or cross them, and the consequences can be deadly.

Ashley meets young men living in some of Rio’s most notorious favelas to find out what it’s like to live here and what forces them to join gangs to survive. He will learn what it takes to become a lookout, foot soldier and drug dealer in a world where death could become a reality at any moment.

'Casual Geographic' is a nice way to wind down. The guy who made the channel really does seem to understand nature in all it's diversity while still making funny and easy to watch videos. Also comes axross as a really nice guy - sometimes it's good to know such people are out there.

I seem to be late to the party, as nearly everyone he meets on his videos knows who he is, although his subscriber numbers arent that massive (201k)

He's all about exploring the 'rougher' side of UK towns and cities, and abroad too, whether that's talking to homeless people, getting into slanging matches with prostitutes in red light districts, (he engages with everyone he encounters and that leads to all sorts of outcomes!), filming police stop and searches, and chatting with the police and the people being searched, and just doing and going w/e takes his interest.

He's an ex-heroin user and ex convict (I think he said) so he talks from that kind of background and experience.

This one is good

I really enjoyed this last night. Some great down to earth scouse wit and banter. "Smacklesfield" indeed :ROFLMAO:, I've never heard it called that before! Last I heard some time ago it was considered an upmarket place, the type of place where footballers and posh people live.

But it clearly has it's rough side too, which is what this guy likes to delve into.

Sorry mate, but Macclesfield has never been considered 'upmarket' in my 60 years on this planet. Just listen to The Macc Lads for an overview of life in a shitty northern town.

You must be thinking of the relatively nearby Alderley Edge, which is rammed with posh wankers and footballers.
Back in the early days of 'County lines', I knew a scouse crew who had set their sights on Macc. Looks like they succeeded.

Wasn't there a myth that whenever a pub wanted to redecorate their interior, they would book The Macc Lads whose fans would rip the place apart to the point where it actually lowered the cost of the improvements?

No idea if it's true, but in the much mis-attibuted statment 'if it's a choice between printing the truth or printing the legend - print the legend' holds true IMO.

I've seen the macc lads live, and they did attract quite a following of very raucous skinheads, to whom the irony of the lyrics was lost...

Be warned his videos get very dark, but his coverage of the history and present day activities of Mexican Cartel violence is second to none. The usual format is mostly backstory about some notable figure or event in Cartel history followed by a graphic description of a (usually related) Cartel video.

He also covers wider topics of war videos, mob justice and even a little true crime. Fascinating stuff… but brutal and highly disturbing. Obviously no gore is shown but it is described - your own peril and all that… but, as noted, the Cartel history stuff is worth it alone and you can always just skip the video descriptions at the end.

Yeah, I'm sure you're right. Me and my increasingly unreliable memory :\

I've never had any reason to go to either Smacklesfield or Alderley Edge, so I've never experienced the delights or horrors of either or both. Maybe I'll have a reason to go one day........

This guy is another Brit who likes checking out rough areas, and he also has a weird liking of rough pubs in the rough areas. He does enjoy his beer though, and it seems it's possible to get a decent pint of Guiness for £2.50 - £3.00 in some of these places, so there is that. He just casually walks into these places, all on his own, complete stranger, camera recording, chatting away to the locals. That takes some balls, or a certain type of person, to do that, imho, as a complete outsider in these rough local pubs.



There's one pub called "The Vulcan" FFS, and just by the name alone, in a rough area, that would be a definate no go in my book. Probably in any area, anywhere tbh lol

Quite funny one scene where he's walking past a different pub, that looks as if it could be really nice from the front (if you forget where it's located) and then as he walks past the gable end he comments that it "looks half decent that" as he's not seen the really ugly state of the knackered paintwork on the gable end, as he's commenting.

He's got his own unique take on things, that for sure. Fly tipping and litter are some of his biggest targets for ctiticism in these videos, and I'm fully with him on that. I definately don't agree with everything he says or does though, that's for sure.
