Good YouTube/etc Channels worth watching

A podcast about weirdos. Hosted by comedians John Fahy, Aaron Pita, and Matt Brousseau, each episode tells a tale about someone who lives afoul of the rules most of us live by.

Alex O’Connor is a philosopher who covers philosophical content. Philosophically. Obviously.

I believe he started out with mostly atheist content (which he still covers) but also covers all aspects of philosophy. Very intelligent chap with some very interesting content.

A good friend who has a degree from Oxford University in Anthropology & is the head of The Anthropology department at a Canadian University turned me onto this guy a while ago, I was shocked to see his mug pop up a moment ago.

How long you known about this guy?

Couple years ago, but only recently started watching regularly. Really enjoying his takes so far :)

Zopiclone Bandit has posted a few of his vids elsewhere but thought I’d give the guy a proper entry on our lil list of recommendations…

Simon Doherty covers all manner of drug-related matters with a focus on the British drug scene. I picked out two perennial topics from EADD’s “Golden Age” in the form of Mephedrone and Gritweed. Loved and hated in equal measure 😃

If you're into ancient history, I really enjoy the channel "Free History Documentaries"

I was first drawn there by Mary Beard's series on Rome, but there are so many other good ones there too.

Haven’t checked that channel in years but used to watch it regularly. May have to mosey my nosey over there again… oh, and Mary Beard is legendary ❤️

Everybody is talking about AI. Many people are excited about AI and what our future may look like because of it. Most people are either ignorant of the potential dangers of AI or they are unaware of how AI is being implemented in their lives and the negative consequences of that process. Some may say that our concerns about AI are an overreaction and others believe these concerns are justified. Nevertheless, AI is increasingly infiltrating our lives, and it is not going unnoticed by those with their eyes and ears open. This brings me to AI 2027, a detailed scenario showing how we might get from today's AI systems to superintelligence in coming years. AI 2027 proposes two potential scenarios, and yes, one of those scenarios ends with the extinction of the human species. The researchers of AI 2027 are convinced that either scenario is likely if we don't pivot and curtail our advancements in AI, creating safer systems aligned with human values. But, even though this all sounds terrible, none of this is a surprise from the teachings of the Hindu world-age doctrine of the Yugas. Actually, it is proposed that this would happen, which presents us with a choice: you can either remain asleep at the wheel of your own life and remain a puppet to AI and the companies who run such systems, or you can take responsibility for your life and listen to the knowledge I am about to share, so that you can make an informed choice to either further humanity or sleepwalk into the arms of AI and the destruction of our species.

I love this channel so much, I have my settings on all notifications so I am told when Jason uploads anything.

Bernard does animated explainers on why it fukkin sucked to exist in various roles, in various countries, at various times.

He does this impeccably.

The above is the first video of his I saw and lawdy o lawdy is it brutal. But also enlightening.

But also brutal. You have been warned.

In cheerier news…

The Music Professor covers classical music via the medium of playing the actual music whilst texting the commentary.

Very peaceful and contemplative approach. Admittedly I’ve mostly only watched Satie vids so far… but I doubt the others are gonna be massively raucous ;)

Channel 4 Documentaries is a great resource for those of us that, for whatever reason, can’t access C4.

For those outside the UK, Channel 4 produces a wide range of documentaries from highbrow to very lowbrow.

I’ve got the above cued up for watching soon and should be nearer the highbrow end. The below is nearer the lowbrow end but as I watched it earlier I felt I had to include it…
