Oops, bit flippant that answer... basically there is no way to tell for sure. If you taste a bit and it makes you go 'fuckin hell that's fuckin disgusting', then you're probably on the right track. But you will know if it is good when you've had some - believe me.. If you say 'well I think it was ok but....' then it was shit!!! GOOD speed will have you craving for more because you felt like fuckin GOD himself.

Seriously though, these days it is very rare you will find GOOD speed in the UK. Apparently the Polish have very good stuff, but yer typical UK/Euro speed is probably 90% glucose these days. I was brought up with the speed of the late 70s/early 80s when a g would keep you awake for a week. In those days it was considered a 'hard' drug. Nowadays people consider whizz as a second rate buzz. Just ask Shambles for his thoughts on the matter...
 
Yeah, strong speed is rare, though not impossible to find. If it smells like cat piss, and tastes utterly vile, then you might be onto something. Just take it easy, if it's your first time, especially if you don't know what it really is. :)
 
I take it you won't be carrying accurate scales? ;) Have a bit of a dab, and wait an hour. If you don't feel much, have another. It has a habit of creeping up on you, so don't go mad, or you won't sleep for a good day (my first time involved being awake for 48 hours). If you want specific doses, maybe 50-100mg at a time, until you feel it.
 
Incidentally.. is it worth bothering to seek out street speed if one has access to pharmaceutical dexamphetamine? (In terms of effects, not money..)
 
as noted above, good speed is hard to come by nowaday's. going back to when it was considered a hard drug - i would be up for days on end & out doing stuff i would'nt dream of doing whilst straight headed. it really was something back then!

Funnily enough, I was discussing this with a mate just the other day. He likes speed that makes him get things done, whereas I like speed that makes you feel like a superhero on drugs. He prefers dexies, whereas I prefer (good) street speed. So that's yer answer really - it all depends on what you want to get out of it. I like to feel like I'm 'on drugs', but he prefers the functionality.

Also, pharmaceutical dexamphetamine is just one compound, but street speed is a mongrel bitch of a drug that consists of both dextro & laevo amphetamine, and if you're lucky, then there may be a bit of methamphetamine in there as well. I personally think that dex is more functional than recreational, but YMMV etc. etc.
 
Really? Huh, dex tends to make me feel amazing rather than productive. I heard that the laevo- was the more functional/jittery one.

I'll have to do some experimenting in the name of science, then. :)

Re: laevoamphetamine - I believe this is the isomer which produces the more physical effects - such as the jittery, face chewing, heart pounding sweaty goodness, whereas the dextro isomer produces the more cerebral effects such as euphoria. From anecdotal reports as well as experience, a mixture of the two produces the best 'drug' effect, but I've no idea what would be the optimum ratio.
