Hey everyone;

I just started into the world of music production not too long ago. I've been using Ableton and pro tools, as well as Native instruments for plugins. I am looking for a good community to help people educate and excel in music production. Any ideas? Mainly been using YouTube videos to learn but would love to hear from.experienced people who want to make this music at a sophisticated level. Thanks!

^ Gearslutz.com is a great resource for any hardware related topics, like monitors, audio interfaces, outboard gear, etc.

Soundonsound.com has some excellent articles about a number of different topics, software and hardware.

KVRAudio.com is a good resource for discussion about software plugins like VST instruments and effects, as well as other topics.

I've occassionally found some useful info on reddit.com/r/edmproduction, as well as idmforums.com.

^ Hard for me to say which is the best, since I don't typically spend a lot of time on music production forums. Usually when I want to know about a particular subject, I just Google it, and read whatever posts or articles come up in the search.

what kind of music do you make? tbh its best just to shut yourself out from all the advise and "noise" and just concentrate on your own sound. Having said that, DOA have got a shit load of useful tips in the vaults from the likes of Noisia, Dom&Roland and Calyx&Teebee from back when they used to do Q&As. This info could be transfered across all genres really.

Before looking at any hardware it's best to get to grips completely with the DAW you use. I see so many people with stacks of hardware, yet they haven't got the basics of music production down and their tracks sound like a 5 year old put it together.

The best advice I can give is to find someone proficient on the same DAW as you that produces the same genre, get tuition and you'll learn more in one day than a year fettling on your own.
