I've managed to hold at 120mg oxy for the past week. I am ready to drop my dose. Would it be a bad idea to taper to half of this (60mg)and go to suboxone? Are WD's to half of a dose as bad as CT? What if I did 120 today / 60 tomorrow/120 the next dday and then 60 again and try to stay at 60 for a week?

My other question is this. If i manage to get steady at 60-mg and go CT from there will it be that much easier than from 120? Will the WD's be less or am I just kidding my self?

It's hard to tell how you will react - you didn't say how long you've been at 120 dosage?
I would first try 90 then see how you feel from there. Dropping down gradually is best if you can.

Thank you guys for the response.

I've been at this dose for 2 months. I've been taking oxy for 4 months. the first 2 months was just every 3rd day and only 90mg. Then the last 2 months I've been taking 120 and sometimes more like once and a while 150 ish.

I was clean for 6 months. My history is , last year I was on 90 mg for 6 months for a medical issue. The issue subsided after 2 months but I kept saying I was still in pain. I kicked CT and it was hell. 3 weeks of shit. Then clean for 6 months. I think I was pretty much back to normal in that time. now it's only 4 months into it.

Question1: If you are going to suboxone then why taper at all? It is good to do maybe half your usual doses the day before to reduce the risk of precipitated withdrawal. With a dose of 120 mg you will not be at a much of a risk for them anyway.

Question2 : How do you plan to use the suboxone? short or long term taper or maintenance? If its a short taper I can see tapering down so you need less Sub and can do ti quicker, but otherwise I would just do what I said above. Suboxone is much much easier to taper down form than a full agonist opioid like oxycodone.

Yeah if you plan on getting on suboxone, you might as well just get on it now. 120mg's of oxy isn't a super high tolerance, so while tapering always makes the transition easier, you really don't need to. Just take your last dose and wait 24hours or however long it takes for you to be in moderate withdrawal, and begin taking the suboxone.

But yes try to wait 24 hours form your last dose. If its been like 18 and its unbearable for like 6 hours already, you will probably be fine, but try to stick it out for 24.

I took my last dose yesterday at 2pm and I was ok this morning when I woke up a 8 am. I was craving them buty was ok. I think I would be ok at 24 hours. It's just hard with the cravings.

Yea cravings are not what you are looking for to know when its alright to take the suboxone. You want to be sick, you know like real physical withdrawal. A good way to judge is your pupil size, I usually will check mine in a room with the curtains down and some light like a 1-2 60 watt bulbs, and not have the light right in your eyes. If your pupils are big, like looks like you are tripping or on MDMA big, then you [probably are good to take the suboxone. I think you want to check them in a somewhat dimly lit room because, at least for me, when I am in heavy withdrwal but outside in bright sunlight my pupils are relatively small. Then if I walk into a dimly lit room they are huge. Considering your habit isn't that large, you don't need to be dying to take the suboxone. Just some restless legs, nausea/lacof appetite, insomnia/restlessness, goosebumps, occasional yawning, sweating with hold/cold flashed and loosening of the bowels and you are at the point where you can take the Subs. Even if 2 or 3 of those things are not present you should be good, since everyone gets different effects in W/D.

What will really matter is what dose you drop off from. Id try to make your last dose (last couple pref) as low as possible.

I really want to stop but I like it too much. I'm going to stop.
What happens if I take sub too early? Predicated wd's ? What is that?

Yea I know how it is. Very rare I could get myself to taper down on anything. Precip withdrawal is instant serious w'd from what ive read..it doesnt happen as easily as people make it out to. Ive taken sub (edit-ha mightve been like 10-12 hours) (not reccomending this) after last dose of heroin/oxy and have never got precip w/ds, but everyone is different.

Just wait till w/d signs start (anxious, restless, runny nose, BIG PUPILS-thats a good one to go by..) shouldnt be that hard..

I find it really surprising that anybody even thinking of taking suboxone doesn't even know what PW's are. You really should become familar with the basics of a medication before you start using it.

Precipitated Withdrawals

Mr Scagnattie has a good point and Predecessor too. One thing you should consider is suboxone is not a magic cure. You will become dependent on those and eventually need to detox from them. Another thing people have mentioned is the pupil size and not everyone gets large pupils when withdrawing. At least I never did.

Please don't make me feel bad because I'm not as informed as you. I had an Idea I just wanted it to be clarified. Of course I would go to my addiction DR to get the sub. I wouldn't get it on the streets. I'm sure he would inform me of what I needed to know.

Thanks for making me feel stupid.

Don't feel stupid. I think he was more/less trying to tell you to learn more about suboxone before you plan on starting it. Personally, I didn't find suboxone so great because I still wanted to get high real bad. They gave it to me when I was in detox. Also my psych doctor prescribed it to me but I just didn't feel "satisfaction" for lack of a better word.

Suboxone has been a Godsend for lots of people trying to stay off opiates. The truth is, for me I just wasn't ready to stop getting high. I had a few detox and rehabs and would get home and resume using. When I was finally at the end of my rope, I ended up quitting on my own tapering. Whatever you decide, I wish you luck. Check back in here and let us know how it's going. People really do care! <3

Unfortunately this is not really true. Some of these doctors are about as informed as you probably are on the medication they are Rx'ing. I went to a Sub "program" which had just got a new doctor. First appointment my doc was being mentored by the guy who ran the thing. The next appointment I saw the lady. I was one of her first patients and thats why i got in the program so quickly. During the 2nd and 3rd appointment I asked her very elementary questions about the drug that she could not answer. I was just playing naive, because I find it lets you get away with more in these cases. For instance I ask how long to hold the pill under my tongue, she doesn't know (really?) so I tell her I only do for 2-3 minutes then spit it out, to justify low urine levels because I take less than 1/2 what I'm prescribed. But really don't put blind faith in the doctors, even though some are knowledgeable. And if the doc tries to put you on 8 mg to start and I can assure you hes clueless and doing you no favors. 2 tops

Nobody is trying to make you feel stupid. That's just very very basic information. But, either way I'm glad you asked anyway. Better late than never.

Be safe.

at 120mg it's fine just to CT it will feel pretty bad but if you don't feel bad like that what is to stop you from using again in the future
