While I agree that you don't need music, I think it'd be folly for you to not bring any along. Once when I was tripping I got into a dark, introspective, kinda scary little loop in my head, and I felt distant from all my friends, but there was some amazing Allman Brothers music that caught my ear and it shook me out of the bad trip I was in.
My vote goes for all the better hippie jam band things, The Band, Little Feat, Grateful Dead, Phish, Allman Brothers, Widespread Panic.
Oooh also, Keller Williams!

The dude's a mountain man himself, from Virginia, and he has hints of bluegrass in his incredibly unique playing, which I think would be appropriate in the Appalachians.
Also I really like The Wood Brothers, they are a alt. Folk/Bluegrassy duo but I love their lyrics and vibe, very earthy.
