Good drugs for social anxiety?

etarded4sho said:
gonna have to go with opiates. you can be high and have fun without lookin retarded

Opiates are too expencive too use for social anxiety and tolerance builds up quick, yeah 10mg of Hydrocodone would probably be enough too put you in a better mood and make you more socialble but within years time its going too be 40mg of OC up the nose... and doses too curb anxiety are usally no where near enough too make some look retarded, 10mg of Diazepam (valium) or .5-.75mg of alprazolam(xanax) will do wonders for your anxiety and you will not feal stupid just relaxed.

To all of you who say "exercise, herbs, meditation" and other crap like that as a cure for social anxiety, well, you certainly have never suffered from social anxiety. Working out and taking some crap medicines like 5HTP, St. John's Wort, or whatever else will do practically nothing for social anxiety. I already mentioned the drug fixes I recommend. Benzodiazepines are probably the best option because a doctor WILL prescribe it to you. The reason doctors presribe powerful benzos, is because that meditation and exercise crap does nothing for social anxiety, people need real help from powerful drugs.

DXM

Alcohol is supposed to make people less shy or whatever, but that never worked for me. DXM is a drug I could actually talk to people on (doses 240-300mg). I heard marijuana works for some people, but when I got high the anxiety usually got worse. Opiates kinda work for decreasing anxiety too, but not as much as DXM.

It will only work while you are tripping though, and it probably isn't something you should take all the time.

I would have to agree with goldenbrown.....I have extreme social anxiety and panic attacks. A low dose of a good benzo will do wonders for you, and/or possibly a beta blocker which will calm down the adrenaline which in turn calms down your trembling hands, voice, etc. and it also helps me not to get so much of a flushed face. And don't waste your time with herbs, when I worked at my previous nutrition store, over 75% of all returns were from our natural herbs....and no, it wasn't one brand just being returned, it was every one......I'm not here to say that they may not work for everyone, but you definately need treatments that are GUARANTEED to work.(No offense to people that use natural herbs for anxiety, all the more power to ya...they just don't seem to have that great of an effect on most people for that specific purpose). Besides that, when I know my anxiety level is peaking....I inhale slowly for 6 seconds, hold my breath for 6 seconds, then exhale slowly for 6 seconds, etc. for like 10 times...so just remember 666, a.k.a. Bad Shit About To Happen Breathing Exercises...lol...I also get horrible heart palpitations, and if you get those, just cough and they'll subside.....here are the Rx meds I have in which I use for my anxiety: Xanax, Valium, Vicodin (wasn't prescribed for anxiety but helps), Propranolol (beta blocker), and Adderall (Helps calm me down but that's because I have ADHD)......as for other non-Px substances (these are more for fun of course), I have 2 or 3 shots of 40-70 proof liquor with each shot being mixed with my favorite energy drink so you just feel almost as if you're high....and I also might smoke a bowl or two, but if I get blasted and smoke more then that, I'm just plain screwed.....so that's my advice....go ask your doc about a benzo which most likely you'll take everyday, and a beta blocker in which you might take everyday or in certain "fight or flight" situations/ "Bad Shit About To Happen" circumstances. Good Luck with everything.

I also have social anxiety and my advice is to get onto something from a doctor. I'm on paxil and its helped with anxiety and depression no end.
it good and bad with recreational drugs. i'm also on a few others, sodium valpro and zyprexa because i'm bipolar. i swear that the zyprexa increased my pot tolerance in a huge way. but i never NEVER have anxiety now when i smoke.
another one i like now is speed, but i like that because i feel totally with it and super calm. i think you'd be asking for trouble if you were having a rough time with stress at the time.
but it rocks for talking to people.
if you are feeling highly strung, painkillers can be nice. but not a good habit

Amphetamines makes the user extremely talkative but I dont think this would be a positive long term solution.

Alcohol definitely decreases social anxiety but only a medicre overall long term solution.

no drug is a good long term solution for anything accept becoming dependent on it to feel normal.

it seems like many people forget benzos are physically addictive just as heroin and alcohol are. Withdrawling off benzos isn't a smooth ride at all.

I took xanax and diazepam for social anxiety and I only took them for a short period of time - at the most - six weeks, however I know I abused them during this time - its so easily done. I DID suffer withdrawl.

For me withdrawing from xanax and diazepam produced the worst anxiety than I have ever experienced in my life. In fact the withdrawl was a real bitch in many many ways both mentally and physically. When I was withdrawing from these particular drugs my life suffered in so many different ways. Even though that was a long time ago I am still paying for some of it now.

The repercussions of this period of my life were so great that I CANNOT even begin to imagine what the withdrawl is like for people who have used for months or even years.

To date I am shy of using any drug to alleviate anxiety. I definately wont be using xanax or diazapam again. I have been prescribed betablockers but am loathe even to take them.

For the record these types of drugs that provide immense relief are always at the back of my mind. I am never completely free of them. They are my temptation. However I know this is a very very slippery slope for me and one which I cannot afford to ride. Such is their addictive value I guess.

I cannot find a damn thing that will work for me for more than a week or two. I constantly rotate weak opiates (oxy is ideal) and take prescribed gabitril and keppra daily. I tend to stay away from benzoes b/c I build a ridiculous tolerance in a day or two and end up overdoing it and completely shirking my responsibilities, schoolwork, etc (but no social anxiety!) Benzos start binges of all sorts for me, and the hunt for benzos can cause its own horrifying anxiety. If you can take benzos right, go for it with a good doctor. Adderall is the most effective med I've taken for S.A., but I over do it and don't have a doctor (or ADD) for supply.

yeah i'd say coke or mdma if you're looking for a short time solution, but in the long run it will probably make things worse

well it seems as if about every drug known man has been claimed so my 2 cents is anything that dosen't make you look like an idiot (unless thats what you want)

i think weed is a horrible social lube. i really don't like going to social places not high just because i'll get anxious and what not, but when i'm high i don't really talk that much as it is.

i think the best social lube is a LOW dose of alcohol. im not talking about a whole bottle of Jim Bean, i'm just saying 2-6 beers depending on your tolerance

short term solutions (drugqs) make it worse and worse.

1: stop taking all drugs or cut down if u really cant do this.

2: go out alot more. generally ppl are scared of the unknown or the irregular

3: start exercising alot, run, swim, bike, footy, lift weights. it tires u out so relaxes you but also boosts the good brain chemicals naturally. and u look better after a while :) which might help!!
