Good ativan dose for nap time?

Hello all. So, I've pretty much ran out of opiates until tomorrow sometime. My last dose was about 3-4 hours ago, 20mg oxy and about 200mg demerol. Now I have another 100mg demerol, but I doubt that's gunna help me sleep tonight.

What I do have is 6mg of ativan. I've never used it once in my life before, but I've read that it's great for sleeping. Since I'm sure I'll have the aches tonight, I was thinking maybe the ativan would help me sleep through it? Would my previous doses of opiates effect this at all?

Any input is welcome and wanted, thank you

at 4-5 hours after opiate dose there will be some interaction with the ativan. the extent of which nobody can say for sure but most likely not enough to worry about. personally i always put at least six hours between a opiate and benzo dose which is sufficient enough to where i only feel the benzo. but i have a pretty high tolerance also.

to be safe and with your benzo tolerance start small, 1mg at first and after an hour if your not sufficiently sedated another 1mg will be fine and should have you where you want to be.

Does sniffing ativan yield anything worth mentioning? Mind you I have the subliminal ones

i've never snorted any benzos but the general consensus around here is that it's a bad idea that don't work well. the oral BA is high enough anyway.

Goddamnit, this was just covered seconds ago. No, don't snort benzodiazepines, its less effective than taking orally.

If you want "sleep" not "relief" I'd suggest 3mg. You can always take more if you need. If your last dose was 4 hours ago you will be fine taking it.

I have read a few people saying ativan can make opiate withdrawals even worse? "precipitated withdrawals" I think was the term they used.

So I just caved in, and sniffed the 100mg demerol. Would it be unwise to still take the 3mg ativan? Should I lower the dose, or skip it all together? The demerol didn't really do much

3mgs is too much for someone who's never taken it before Start with 1mg and see how your feeling after about an hour or so. It won't cause precipitated wds, it's actually a pretty good comfort med when in opiate wds.

I never took ativan before a couple of weeks ago I started with 3 or 4mg I would say that the stating point 2mg should be fine I just have a high tolerance to most pills

I suggested 1mg after having read you took the reaing demerol. Take 2mgs if you're convinced 1 isn't enough. You can always take more.

I have a benzo tolerance - previously prescribed ativan, currently prescribed clonazepam and temazepam - I'd say that 1mg to start is just fine, not too 'little' or too weak for someone w/ NO tolerance. Also, considering you have just had demerol (regardless of the fact that you say it didn't do much... ). As said, start with 1mg, you can always take another half mg, 1mg more, etc. Read previous lorazepam posts for useful information.

Thanks for the help everyone, and the concern. You guys have never done me wrong before, so no reason not to trust now. I just took 1mg of the ativan, waiting for it to kick in now. Those subliminal ones sure do taste good haha
