Who cares? Let's have sex!
I am not sure if this should be here or in SO...but here goes.

Sometimes, I like going to the movies alone. You know, if the movie is like a blockbuster, you always know that there's always a good seat for 1. There's no need to wait for your friends to get their stuff, etc. I like being able to walk up to a cinema, buy a ticket, get your popcorn and watch it. No fuss!

What do you guys think? Discuss!

I generally don't like going to the movies at all. I only go when I can't wait for a movie to come out on DVD, and that's pretty rare, maybe once a year.

I'm gonna sound like a dickhead, but I hate watching a movie with so many people ruining the experience. Like, laughing at things I don't find funny. The sound of others drinking, eating, and rustling through wrappers and their popcorn. To put it mildly, it's all too distracting.

That's not really what this thread's about though, is it? Ok, yes, i've gone to the movies by myself before. No real difference.

I like going to the movies alone because as EJ said theres no annoying people laughing at things I dont find funny, or people trying to talk to me in the good parts or ruining the whole rntire movie with one sentence.

Nothing wrong with being a loner at the movies. Also alot of the movies I would like to see are not the kind of movies most of the people I hang with tent to watch so sometimes I would have no choice and it doesnt bother me at all.

I do love sitting in a room full of people watching a great DVD with bongs being passed around, just as long as people STFU and get really wacked, but that aint the movies so im not sure why I just mentioned that lol

I do and I do I feel slightly paranoid that the staff are thinking, "oh here comes THAT girl again" what a Nigel. But meh.. a small price to pay. Smaller than the price of the popcorn that's for sure. 8o

I went to see Forgetting Sarah Marshall the other day with me, myself and I and it was hilarious. There was only me and two other people in the entire theatre. So it was a bit awkward with me cackling away down the front. I had to contain myself somewhat

I saw Iron Man at the cinemas by myself this morning, it was great. People who can't get over their fear of being seen "alone" in public like at movies or restaurants are missing out... it's your life, I think it's sad myself that people can be so crippled by their fear of what others might think as to let it control what they do.

i use to go solo frequently for a period when i was suppose to be in school. i understand how people may trip on going alone, but its all gravey. movies are like a 'date' activity.. thats how i look at the cinema.. if there is a movie thats like a 'limited art house' type movies maybe ill roll with a homeboy or solo... but i don't even go to movie theaters(rarely), thanks to the internets.

I saw Iron Man alone too....great minds think alike. :)

I go by myself most of the time as I'm more of a loner type anyway. I don't see anything wrong with it. A lot of people seem to think it's a bit weird to go alone though. But in the words of Freddy Krueger, "who gives a fuck what you think?!". =D

I saw 21 by myself. Nobody else was about and I wanted to see it. Brought a few beers with me too and had a great little time by myself :D

It can be easier just going by yourself too. Always a hassle trying to arrange with friends what they want to see, what time to see it at, which cinema to go to blah blah blah.

I also love going to the movies alone. But of all my friends I'm the only one who really appreciates going to see a film at a cinema anyway. Most of my friends are addicted to tobacco and the fact that they can't pause the film to take a ciggie break makes them uncomfortable.

The worst experience I've had seeing a movie alone was watching Spiderman. I had taken a bunch of mushrooms with some friends that day but had become restless and bored with them. We talked about maybe going to see a movie for what seemed liked hours and they just couldn't motivate themselves so I got bored and went by myself. Sadly, it was a Sunday or something and the cinema was inundated with kids. I got a seat next to this kid who was a bit fat and had this huge tub of popcorn to himself. Anyway, the way this kid was eating the popcorn was just not healthy, he was practically inhaling the stuff like he needed it to live and it spun me out in the state of mind I was in. I was simulataneously disgusted and extremely sympathetic to the little tyke.

The best experience I've had was seeing Pan's Labyrinth. I just really needed some escapism and alone time and there were only three other people in the thearte. I became completely lost in that movie.

been to the cinema solo countless times and enjoyed it just as much as with people. more in some ways.

i'm sure there was an identical thread but the search is on the fritz. even with this thread, the search comes up with no results for "alone"

at all. :X

Oh lordy that was a good movie wasn't it!? Beautifully dark imagery. I went to see it with a buddy of mine at an Arts Center so there was no juvenile delinquent lollygagging going on to spoil the ambiance. Like when I went to see No Country For Old Men (by myself) there was this family sitting in the row behind me and I swear to god they took it in turns to say something every 60 seconds. I kept turning around and giving them evils, but they were in their own little world. :X :X grrrrrrrr

I prefer seeing movies by myself. Just cause if the movie sucks, I don't have to hear a bunch of shit from another person about how I dragged them off to see it.
