My fiance and I will be going to the L.A area in late September. So far on my list of things to do I have:

- Going to a Price is Right taping
- Checking out Venice Beach
- Taking a Hollywood tour

It's not a long list yet, but I was hoping I could get some input from people who live around L.A or people who have visited it.

Any suggestions on what to do there?

I can tell you two things NOT to do....

I lived in LA for a few years, and two of the lowlights were:

Universal Studios - so lame! overcrowded, long walks between "attractions", the only thing that was somewhat interesting was the tour of the movie lot, and even that was kinda lame. We paid alot of money and planned on spending the entire day, but after like 2 or 3 hours we were so bored we left.
Santa Monica boardwalk - drove hours to get there from where we lived (pasadena area) and yep, it was a boardwalk with touristy booths, a few so-so rides, etc. I guess if you are driving the beach anyway, it might be worth a stop there, otherwise, I would say don't go out of your way.
My kids enjoyed most just walking down Hollywood Blvd, seeing the stars in the sidewalk, the handprints in front of the chinese theater, etc. We even ran into a guy from MTV's the real world in the magic shop and talked to him for a few minutes, my teenage daughter was THRILLED.
