Goa Trance

@Orphic

I checked out all the links, E-Mantra and Dimension 5 totally stand out, the Radical Distortion album is quite meh and like I expected, Afgin is complete wank.

Artifact303 used to be good, their (or his) latest album is pretty mediocre.

@Orphic

Goa-Trance is a sub-genre of psytrance
It's still psychedelic trance music
Goa Trance is PsyTrance
PsyTrance isn't necessarily Goa Trance
Simple as fuck
;)

Hey man!

For me, and maybe this is largely influenced for where I live and the people I hang out with, psytrance does not equal the term psychedelic trance. And if you're right saying that Goa Trance is a sub-genre in psychedelic trance, in my corner of the world you would be wrong saying that Goa Trance is a sub-genre of Psytrance. Once again, for me and everyone I know, Psytrance includes all sub-genres ranging from full-on to morning and psytek, but not Goa, for it being a lot more different than the others.

For the record, what you would call Psytrance, we call it Psy. But I think we all understand each other anyway and right now we're just messing around language specifications that are not inevitable for our understanding of each other.

It's still nice to know that other people know the nomenclature! ;)

yeah, I don't really consider goa a form of psytrance. Although it is the precursor to psytrance. One thing that sets psytrance apart from goa is the rolling (saw wave) bass that is common in most psytrance.

That rolling bassline is mostly about full-on
Well u see it in dark psy too but usually kind of different

I thought Goa Trance was a form of Trance, Psytrance has evolved out of Goa Trance, Psytrance has these synthetic metallic hammer kicks and strong pure monotone basslines, Goa just uses 909 kicks with a long decay and the bassline is just a lowpassed analog saw wave or square wave synth. Goa is more indian influenced, warm and organic, where as Psytrance is more alien influenced, cold and cyber-ish. Goa is about the melodies, Psytrance is about the production and feel. Goa tends to overload you, while Psy keeps it simple and subtle.

back then goa trance and psytrance were synonymous.
using today's terms psytrance has evolved out of goa trance. still a lot of modern goa trance uses the same kicks found in psy, but eq'd differently to make space for melodies. psy basslines are also just lowpassed saws (just not-so-low passed ;) ). i find the main difference to be the melodies (which even goa sometimes lacks), atmosphere and feel of the track (often due to complex harmonics, phrygian or other exotic scales and different mixdown in goa trance).

sometimes you even see an almost typical fullon bassline in goa (goasia or vox make tracks like that), but still it's undeniably goa :)

yes panic
named after the place where it started, goa in botswana

so a bunch of euro white guys went over to Goa Botswana, or Goa India, for the spirituality and nature, then became children of the universe to incorporate this all in their perception with techno?
